I bought a new bow about 10 days ago. Getting ready for an elk hunt so I went with a 60-70 pound draw bow. In hindsight, I think I should’ve went with the 50-60 pound. My joints (elbow and shoulder on bow arm and sometimes shoulder on draw arm)are bothering me and my draw cycle isn’t smooth. I think I’m pulling too much weight. Anyways, I’ve heard that a bow should be turned all the way up to work the best. I’m already down to 65 pound draw and it still hurts to shoot. My question is should I sell the bow and take a loss and buy the 50-60 pound or turn the one I have down all the way and lose efficiency or whatever benefits you have by maxing them out? If so, how much loss should I expect? Or with the new technology, does having one turned down make a noticeable negative difference than maxing it out?

Turn it down, it’ll be fine.

Make sure you re-check your draw length with a qualified bow technician. Carry your preferred release with you, too. If you aren’t breaking early enough on the draw, it can seem like you are pulling too much weight. You can pull MUCH more with the correct draw length. THEN make your decision. JMO.
