We planted 23 green fields at out club in Coosa County last Sat. The rain this week has really set them up good. Hopefully rain next week will really set them up for the future,
We put down 19 tons of lime last year which should also help our fields this year. Used a triple 13 fertilizer with slow release nitrogen in it. Hopefully your planting will get the same mother nature support we are getting.

Hope it slows a little - we may get flash flooded - we saturated - may not even drive out tomorrow - hard to make my roads bad but they will be awful tomorrow

I thought all this rain in Al. came thru Miss. on the way here. Hard to believe you didn't get some of it. We certainly got our share and it is still coming for next four days.
Mostly light rain, but for hours at a time. Great for newly disked planted fields.

First time I ever been wishing for dry weather so I could plant food plots. If this keeps up I may never get plant.

I don’t even know if i can drive out and fill feeders tomorrow - way too wet to plant here

I caught a coon each of last 2 weekends - not trying to this weekend - big mud bog

We could hav dry for 2 weeks and still hav moisture in soil here

I planted several food plots yesterday. I have never planted this early but I got the itch to plant. To wet to disk, but I do throw and mow anyway. We shall see if I was dumb to plant this early.

One thing about the T&M, do overs are not hard. I really expect to have to add a few more seed later. By the time i start hunting, itll look good

For where I'm at anyways, I consider the "planting window" to just be opening........You'll be fine now......Looks like its gonna be dry for a little while in behind this rain event which should push the next moisture out in to the first week of Oct.......I'll probably spread my seed ahead of that one......I'm waiting a little longer for the summer veg to finish up......a lot of things are just really seeding out. Mowing during the summer and setting things back can prolong the plant seeding out a little. I did notice that the caterpillar populations plummeted this week. Not seeing many at all now.

I'm in Talladega county and have planting in September since the early 90's. I T&M Tuesday before the rain and I'm tickled to death with the rain we've gotten. I plant when temps start to drop and rain is in the forecast, not by a date on a calendar.

I believe the guys name is Jeff Sturgis.......but one of the midwest guru guys has a way that he was promoting planting at one time where he was doing what he called layering his seed on......Basically he would start out with a low planting rate and then go back and add a little more every couple weeks for the duration of his planting window......His idea to it was that it 1) Just made the plot thicker and thicker......but 2) It also made it to where there was new flushes of seedling growth beginning to emerge for a couple months or so.......

Now, I dont know how much of a difference that makes and it seems mighty time consuming.........BUT........I remember reading about that and thinking the same thing you just posted.......At worst case scenario I'll just broadcast a little more clover or elbon rye in a few weeks and maybe that might be a good thing anyways.....

I just dont know enough about it to have a system down yet. I know i put out enough clover seed, if every seed germinates, but thats probably not going to happen. The rye was a last minute decision. I figured the clover wouldnt produce a great amount of food this fall and winter so i added the rye for that. Im hoping by spring ill have a really good stand of ladino and i can just mow it a couple times a year for a few years. We will see. I figure as long as i get a so so stand of ladino, i can add to later and eventually get it where i want it. On the plus side, i have cut the tractor hours way down in that field. Not that i dont enjoy riding the tractor, i just need to be riding it in other places.

You've got the right mentality.......Use the concepts and principles to figure out your own "system" that works best for your situation.

My wife and I got over 18 acres in food plots planted Friday. It was 5 days of hard work discing, fertilizing and planting. We finished Friday and just as we were walking back to the barn the rain started. Perfect timing.

Cant wait to see them in a week or two. Planted 5 to 6 acres in an Alfalfa/clover mix this year in two of our pastures. Hoping I can get year round Alfalfa established as I have huge year round clover plots now that really hold deer all year.
