I planted a few acres of Sun Hemp this summer is various food plots and the deer do not seem to be eating it.
I've heard people say that it may take them a year or two to develop a taste for this. Anyone have experience with this?

How high is it? Like anything else, it gets woody when it gets tall. Bushhog it every time it gets to mid thigh height, unless you’re just using it for beans to run on.

When they start eating it, you might as well stop planting it. Theyll eat it as soon as it sprouts

Yep, I recently planted some as a screen on a food plot that's close to a road. They worked it over as soon as it was a few inches tall.

I have a first time planting that isn't over 6 to 8 inches tall because the tops keep getting bit off. I put out milorganite when I planted and it didn't slow them down much at all apparently.

I cut 2 acres of sunnhemp Saturday. It was 10 ft tall. It had some browsing on it but the deer mainly ate the peas out of it.

We plant it. Some areas they hit it the first year. Some still untouched on yr 3. They wont eat the stems but will pick all the leaves off the up to shoulder high.

You can always tell if they have hit it. If you look at end stems and they are all just one stem and leaf then they have not hit it probably. If they have multiples leafs or stems then they likely have hit it. I have had a friend that had his 8 feet tall and he swore they had never been eaten and almost every end stem was multiple and deer were in it all the time when he pulled his camera. The thing is, if it can manage to get about 2-3 feet it usually survives browse.

They definitely like it better before it gets really tall. I cut some down this past weekend that was about 7 feet tall, and they were still sort of eating on it. The main reason I plant it is to fix nitrogen and add biomass to the soil. If you have a flail mower, it really mulches it up nicely.
