About an hour S of Bham and an hour N of Montgomery. Established 1999. 1500ac mix of timber company and private property, all contiguous. 5 members, thinking we need a 6th. Accommodations with power and water on property. First time I’ve needed to recruit a new member in 20 years. Lost a member and RMS hit us with a big increase this year. And there’s lots of work to do with the storm damage from last year.

Kid friendly, but even our youth know to pass up 2 year olds. We shoot a few does. Good turkey population. Lots of yotes. No pigs (at least for now). Even had a wild covey on the property this past season.

We have plenty of deer but soil quality is poor. We’ve added tons of lime and need to do more. Growing big deer is possible but takes a while and lots of work. A big deer for us is 120-130” 8pt and we have some damn big 6pts if you’re into that. We manage for mature bucks but hardly a trophy club.

Where we excel is camp life. Fire pit, BGE, Cajun Fryer, Blackstone. We eat well and have a ton of fun. Need the right candidate. PM me if interested.

$2500

Thanks for the interest. I think all PMs have been replied to. Still looking for the right candidate.

To answer a few of the more common questions here:

We are located on the Chilton Co/ Autauga Co line off of US82 near Billingsley (think Jim's BBQ).

Me and three other members have each paid $2500 this year. The other member doesn't pay dues, doesn't hunt, visits1-2 times per yr to socialize, but contributes 347 acres including the camp area, three single wide trailers for accomdations, a 4WD tractor, and all necessary implements. Our lease (848.6 ac) with RMS went up over $2/ac this year and we lost a member who moved further away, so we really need another member to be able to plant what we normally do.

Membership dues cover seed and fertilizer.

Members ages range from 48 to 59ish. We have four teenage sons amongst the membership and three of those hunt regularly. They also provide much of the labor... cutting grass, repairing and cleaning out shooting houses, replentishing mineral sites, trapping coons, trimming roads and trails, and splitting wood. They are also good deer trackers and deer draggers. They are "guests" with unlimited visits, and their kills count against their hosting member's allowance, as would a member's spouse who hunts. Guests (including the teens) may not hunt without member present, period. All current members live 1-2 hrs away, in Chelsea, Birmingham, and Gadsden areas.

There is zero drama in the club. I've run off the riff-raff and the current members are dear friends who are law abiding hunters. Our neighbor is a game warden and he has keys to our gates and an open invitation to visit us anytime. Permanent stands (houses and ladders) are club stands and are first come, first serve. We pin out on a magnetic board and sign in/out on a paper log where all kills and weights are recorded. We weigh all deer and keep and age all jaw bones. There is a convenient processor about 10 minutes up the road who does a great job.

Typically we plant ~20 food plots / 11ac. Some did't get hunted more than once last year. Most have elevated shooting houses, but some are currently on the ground right now thanks to Zeta and the Billingsley tornades from last year. We've recently planted Buckbusters and WMS, but I think our "custom" seed mixes based on field fertility do as well. Most of our members prefer to exclusively hunt food plots, and they see plenty of deer. We currently have no bow hunters in the club, which further minimizes pressure.

Last year we killed 7 deer total: 2 3yo 8pts during the rut, 1 spike (mistaken for a doe), and 4 does. The year before it was 8 total: 4 bucks, 4 does. Our low harvest is due to our hunters being quite selective and a bit lazy, myself included. Our rut is mid-January. I have a few nice deer on the wall and am proud of what we can grow, and I'm perfectly fine to have not pulled the trigger on one in several years. .

There is very low pressue on our 1471 acres, and also low pressure from our immediate neighbors... 232ac unhunted, 160 ac unhunted, 199.unhunted to our north and west. There is a small club with apparently diminishing activiy to our south. Little Mulberry Creek makes up part of our eastern line.

I am the only turkey hunting member. They gobble reasonably well sometimes, and we've killed between 0 and 2 birds per year for the last 20 years. I heard multiple birds gobble while drinking coffee on the porch in the mornings at the camp last year.

We lease from a timber company and have LOTS of clearcuts in varying stages interspersed with hardwood drainages... 160ac clearcut before deer season last year, 80 ac the year before, 100 ac the year before that. 500 acres were clearcut 6-7 years ago. I hate it was that much at one time, and its difficult to hunt apart from the food plots, but it is FULL of deer. Every bit of the planted pines on the leased property has how been cut in the past 20 years, so we should surely be done with clearcutting for a while. The initial 20 yo cut (160 ac) is back to being "woods" In addiiton to LIttle Mulberry, there is year-round water in the other two main drainages with mostly hardwoods. The Little Mulberry Creek bottom is mostly hardwoods and the rest of the property (275 ac private) is a mix of hardwoods and mature pines. We have a large powerline running NW to SE that helps open up the property and provides some long range visibility.

The road network is decent, and most of the property is accessible with 2WD, but there are a few muddy spots that might make you have to take the long way around.

The accomodatrions are suitable to me (but definitely not in the eyes of my wife, who will never spend a night there) but they can be cleaned up and made what you want of them.

We have a 100yd shooting range with shooting bench and metal gong targets in camp.

I'm happy to share pictures and video showing deer quality and also the camp life, which is where we really excell. I passed a heck of a nice 8pt with a brokern tine and then a bigger buck with 5 on one side but with a broken main beam on the other, so my trophies are the videos I took of them instead. We have confidence that they'll still be around again next year so it makes it easier to let them walk.

You won't find better better hunter to acre ratio or lower hunting pressue in the price range. We're a good group of folks who know how to keep the fun in deer camp. We may slip up and kill a 140" this year, but we'll have fun if we do or if we don't.

Hope you find the right one. It would definitely have been cheaper for me to to join with you this year and a lot closer. It may work out in the future if we can’t get our numbers up at the new lease and you have a opening.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

That’s about the best ad for a club I’ve ever seen.

Shouldn’t have trouble filling the spot. If I was looking for a good, low pressure place to hunt, this would be on the top of my list.

Bradley, let’s keep in touch. I think we’re in a good position, if necessary, to acquire additional acreage and keep growing a good thing in the future if we want to and can recruit the right-minded folks who want to be part of it. I love this property and have a long time horizon… I expect to see this fresh clearcut turn back into woods. But not doing the math on how old I’ll be then.

Jamey

Pretty tempting here. Close to the house.

Don't blame me for your bad decision-

Things worked out great for us! We found the right member for this year who is an old friend of the club AND I found a great prospective member for our next opening. He and his boys have an invite to youth weekend in November so we get past any "stranger" hangup with the other members. I also met some other great ALDEER folks and may end up with several potential candidates in case we decide to grow the club and pick up additional acreage Thanks for the interest!

But he shouldn't apologize for all the clearcuts. They are a blast to hunt and are loaded with deer. If I were looking for a club, this one would rank high on the list. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Agreed on not apologizing for clear cuts for the deer hunters. Many of the first contacts were inquiring about “turkey only” so I was just clarifying. We have turkeys. We have 1471ac. But we don’t have 1471ac of prime turkey habitat right now.

Consecutive 7yo 500ac clearcut is hard to show… unless the interested party is looking at the deer tracks.
