Ok we have all seen funny stuff at a boat launching ramp.

I was in AR years ago and watch a guy pulling his boat out fully trimmed down. Sparks all the way up the ramp. We were all saying. STOP. He waved and said y’all had any luck today...

Funniest thing I can remember was a hatchback Ford Tempo/Escort (not sure what it was but it had no business pulling a boat) pulling a pontoon boat at least three times the length of the car, out of the Selma City Marina. It was an uphill battle to begin with(pun intended) but there was a couple of ladies that had thoroughly won the war with anorexia still in the boat. I heard the hamsters under that hood wind up and he dropped it down in drive and nailed it, squealing tires, and inched that thing out of the water. I’ve been a Ford guy ever since.

I can only imagine pics or videos of that would circulate the internet forever. Thats the kind of show you stop all you're doing & sit down with the popcorn.

Just got back from fishing on White River and guide was telling us about a truck/trailer that went in river last year.
Owner was in boat, had his friend get truck. He was running boat up on trailer, still had his motor down and friend pulled forward. Boat started coming off, then backed up truck with motor still down and damaged motor/prop. Then slid boat/trailer and truck into river rofl

Watching a bunch of drunks trying to load a pontoon. Took the 30 minutes. Whole restaurant was up laughing.

Buddy and I had just finished up a day of fishing and had just loaded the boat up on the trailer. We were talking with another friend and this station wagon pulled up with a jet ski IN the back of the car. The guys in the station wagon got out, removed the straps keeping the ski in the car, tied a rope to the ski and the bumper of the car and backed up to the ramp. One guy stood by as the driver jumped in the car, pulled it forward about 100', then put it in reverse and stood on the gas pedal backing down to the water. Just as he got close to the water, he slammed on the brakes and the ski came flying out the car. The guy on the ramp untied the rope, the driver parked the car, and they both got on the ski and took off.

About 20 yrs ago I forgot to tie bow line to trailer!lol
Luckily I looked over and there was a paddle boat tied to pier so I started paddling like hell.got lucky and didn't have to swim but man I was embarrassed.
Bad thing folks hang out at boat launches for the entertainment it seems.

I had an unscheduled bath a couple years ago.
Once you know you're going, just concentrate on the landing.

I almost lost a truck in a 1/2 ass ramp 25 years ago. Got it out, but everything in the bed floated out into the river.
Too close.

I was fishing Logan Martin with a friend one afternoon launching at Riverside. I was inside paying for the launch and picking up a few items and he decided to go ahead and launch the aluminum boat himself. He forgot he had installed some slick strips on the trailer runners the trip before when he unhooked the crank strap and started down the concrete ramp. He also decided to hit the brakes as he started backing down and launched the boat onto the concrete at the top of the ramp. The ramp was at enough angle that the boat did make it to the water. He pulled into a parking spot like nothing had ever happened and we went fishing. Can't stop laughing while typing and recalling this story. He still hears about this on a regular basis.

Me and dad about 20yrs ago took our brand new bass boat out after thinking it was a good idea to put some protectant on the carpeted trailer bunks. Trying to back down the ramp, boat slid off the trailer. Carpet bunks were slicker than snot from the protectant we used. Luckily boat was about half way in water when it slid and we were able to push into water before retrailering. Had only minor damage to the very bottom edge of hull and the bottom tip of motor. Got lucky on damage in a true idot momment.

Did this once also.
Had a new to me boat going out for the first time. Launch and tied up to pier. Rope was old and snapped in two, boat was blowing away from pier. Took a quick swim before boat got too far away.

Toyota Sequoia pulling a SeaRay 270 Sundancer w/ Twin 4.3’s (7500lbs dry and she had 100gal fuel and 40gal of fresh water in the tanks) on a short skinny gravel covered concrete ramp behind Old Lakeside Marina with a 90deg turn at the top of the ramp 40ft from the water’s edge. As soon as the rear of the trailer got on the downhill slope of the ramp the trailer started dragging the Sequoia sideways down the ramp at Mach7. Helluva ride. New boat, new truck, pregnant wife, 2 dogs. and forty-eleven witnesses. 1000 wonders that sequoia stopped before she hit the water. THEN I had to swim for the f’n Sea Ray because nobody was on it and I had already unhooked it from the trailer winch. I just wanted to line it up straight on the ramp so wife could back me in drama free....yeah right.

A large tub of about 25 feet of cabin cruiser filled with drunk messicans attempts to power load because the tow vehicle is too small old and crappy to get boat up ramp.Unfortunately captain had wheel turned and boat flew left off trailer just as truck was burning rubber to get up ramp.unweighted the tow truck flys up the ramp into about a $50’000 flats boat whose owner proceeds to beat the hell out of lil brown drunk fella.it was awesome

I was 15 and wanted to take my new to me tracker out on lake Martin after school one afternoon. So me and my mom drove to smith mountain boat ramp. I had helped my dad put our old boat in multiple times and thought I had it figured out. Got all the transom straps off and in clipped the bow hook and had plug installed. Started to back down the ramp and in my Rearview I see the bottom Of the boat standing straight up in the air! Look at my mom and she had eyes of softballs! Didn’t realize that the trailer rollers worked way differently than standard bunks. Luckily I was able to hook up the winch line and set the boat on the trailer. Need up trading that setup for a ruger #1. Guy that got the boat lost it twice on the ramp.

It’s fun to watch the looks I sometimes get when launching my boat with the Ulterra. I tap the brakes as the trailer gets down in the water and let the boat slide back usually past the dock ends before remotely deploying the trolling motor. I steer the boat away from the launch traffic, hit the spot lock and go park the truck all without leaving my seat in the cab. I think folks are sometimes disappointed when they don’t get to see me bailout to dive in and catch the boat drifting away. The Ulterra is the best thing in the world for solo boat launch.

I used to eat lunch at Howtons Camp. I ALWAYS got a window seat so I could watch the idiots launch. My favorite was a husband/wife duo. Husband got in boat and told wife to back it in....she had never backed a truck/boat before. He was screaming directions, and she was yelling back...in tears. Somebody finally went over and backed the truck for her. Pretty sure they got a divorce over it....

I've seen a few female trailer backer's, but not many.
The pressure at a crowded ramp on a holiday has
ended it all for some of them I'm sure.

We used to dock watch. Chair, cooler and watch all the action at the public boat dock. Seen people take baths, boats float off without anyone in them. People forgetting the plug, fist fights over launching, couples cussing at each other, you name it. Good times

Ask FurFlyin about that! I may have my people mixed up, but someone I know did that and had the breaker flipped. rofl
