I know that people mostly eat sweet corn now. In fact you can't find anything else at a store. My mother on the other hand doesn't like sweet corn and is constantly after me to plant her some regular old field corn as she calls it. I remember eating it but it's been a long time. I always thought that if you picked it before it got too hard that it was fine for eating but man the opinions of people online when asked about eating field corn are overwhelmingly negative. Some act like you suggested eating a dog turd. What's the opinion here?

We used to plant about 2 acres of field corn to feed our hogs back in the 60's. We ate plenty of it then and liked it. I tried some of the GMO corn around 20 years ago and it wasn't worth picking. I'd try to find some of the Heirloom varieties if I were going to plant some.

Truckers Favorite, Hickory King or Pencil Cobb. Have to pick it as soon as it’s in the milk stage, don’t have much of a window either.

My Dad loved it, didn't care for sweet corn at all. My mom made fried corn with it. Going to have to learn how it was done as both are gone now.

I love yellow dent. It makes my favorite cream corn. All my great granddaddy grew. It’d be 10’ tall and I bet 15” ears. I planted some the other day.
