Blackwater River State Forest in the NW Panhandle - anyone have decent intel about it in regard to stalking for hogs?

Thick palmetto crap that you can't walk through? Any roads or openings? Marsh? Gators and mambas and skeeters everywhere?

Blackwater doesn't have much of a palmetto floor to it. Blackwater is primarily wire grass around thinned burned pines and somewhat thicker SMZs. I'm not 100% on the hog population, but I think there may be other areas that may produce better. You may be able to find a fairly recent motor vehicle use map through the states websites.

Thanks, Huntinman. Didn't know anything about it. I may be in that area in a few weeks on bidness.

I’m not sure what season/s will be in while you are here, but if you want hogs in this area look at Escambia River WMA. It has everything you were describing.

Found out more about that Blackwater area. It's closed to hog hunting other than some specific periods, and I'm told that hog hunting is prohibited on WMAs during spring turkey season. No biggie, though.

Will check the Escambia River WMA. Thanks, auburn17.

I turkey hunt all over Blackwater management area. I have seen very little hog sign anywhere.
