I’d rather go out and catch a bunch of beeliners than snapper.. They taste better to me anyway.. We chum up big black snapper. We have a five per person limit and they are delicious. The bigger Beeliners are also very good, and make great live bait for wahoo, king, AJ’s. Unfortunately, using them for live bait is now illegal.

Anchor up current of the structure that the fish are hanging on and start chumming. Once they come up, just slip a small hook inside one of the pieces of chum and hold on for the ride. Need to use 30-40 flouro and a small hook that isn't visible. They have great eye sight. Live croakers work great too.

It’s better in water that is 80’ deep or less. The most important thing is knowing where they are. We pull over the area and start throwing cut up baitfish, Bonita, etc. If they are there, they will almost immediately come close to the surface. They can be finicky so use light mono leader (20-30lb) and no weight if the current will allow. We pitch small live baits to them and fresh chum without the skin will work as well. The paradise hole about ten miles out of Pensacola pass and the bridge rubble out of Perdido are always consistent.

I don’t know if there is anything out there that won’t eat a beeliner! The only thing I have ever seen cobia refuse is baby Bonita. They will eat them but will immediately spit them out.

I have a spot about 25 miles to the SE from Destin that I’m confident has them all over it. Just haven’t put the time into going over there. I fished it once last year and it had snapper markings all over it but we couldn’t get em to eat. Later on I realized what was likely down there. This is one of the most fun ways of catching fish out there when the conditions allow it.
