.....and now that we’ve gotten details on land size, then it shows why it’s not an issue. If you had a thousand acres vs 15k, your use impacts are TOTALLY different, by type and volume. With that much to work with, you can certainly manage for most all use. I still wouldn’t want to draw the 200-500ac that had been coon hunted the night before, vs an area that hadn’t.....if I’m a member there to deer and turkey hunt....but others may be okay with it. It sounds like a heckuva property. I can’t know the numbers and setup, but it has the capacity to deal with stuff smaller tracts don’t.

You can definitely tell the ones on this site that didnt grow up around a pack of hounds. I've dog hunted, hung on the side of a tree and turkey hunted all my life. A hound will not ruin a piece of property no matter the size. If they run a deer it will come back just like a deer if it sees or smells you same as a turkey if it sees you no not within a few minutes but with in hrs everything will go back to normal. I guess y'all think coyotes and bobcats dont bother deer or turkeys nor do coons, fox or oposums bother turkey nest. Ppl need to use some dang common sense on this page and stop bashing on someones way of hunting or what clubs allow on land they lease.

LOL..so have a lot of us ( deer, turkey, dogs, etc....’all our lives’) ....if you think deer and turkeys act the same, regardless of pressure/activity, I don’t know what to tell you. Point was never that it couldn’t be done, but that it is not the same as without it. I’ve been in plenty of dog clubs over the years, where they’ve run deer, rabbits, and coons. It’s different, period....whether that’s good or bad is dependent on size/amount and personal opinion.

Not sure how it affects turkeys, but deer definately get more nocturnal when they are run with dogs

does anyone remember reading that study they did on collared dear and coon hunters? Pretty good read.

I think alot of folks have a miss conception about the affects of dog hunting. I'm not directing this at anyone, but i hear people all the time try to qualify a statement with "I've dog hunted before". I hunt with dog hunters all the time, and some of them aint got walking around sense, they sure aint an expert on dogs or hunting. Just because someone is a hunter, doesn't mean there a great woodsman. I'm not arguing one way or the other, But I've seen with my own eyes, definitive statements, debunked.

I seen something last year that had me scratching my head. We were hog hunting and the dogs had bayed. The 2 pastures were divided and we was at the gate. At that time the second pasture was being used as a hay field so we had to park at the gate. The perimeter of both was surrounded by a 4 strand barbwire fence. To get to the bay, we would have to keep going about a hundred yards, turn left, cross fence, and maybe go 100 yards into the woods. While we was waiting for the bull dog to get there. We see a deer running through the hayfield on our right, going to our left. It got all the way to the fence (right were we would go through the fence) and stopped. Now I don't know how many of you have heard 7-8 dogs bay a pig before, but its loud. We was twice as far away from the bay as the deer was and we could hear it good. The deer stands there for about 10 seconds, and I'm waiting for him to turn around and bolt any second. I'll be damned if it didn't jump the fence and head right towards the bay. Kinda blew my mind, keep in mind that this land is directly in between 2 big dog hunting clubs, so the deer know what deer dogs are. Never in a million years would i have thought that deer would have done it, but I seen it with my own eyes.

I am with you, goodman. Watched a big doe come through a two year old cutover, way ahead of the dogs. She made a deliberate path and even trotted 100yds through a small branch. She made a huge loop through the woods, with dogs still a ways behind her to come back the same way she had before. This time, she stopped dead in her tracks, leaped 10 ft. to the side of the trail that she ran before, walked about 20 more yds away from the trail, and watched the dogs run by.

LOL....adapting to dogs is altered behavior from not having to adapt to dogs. I was a member of a big dog club for years. Stand hunted it entirely different than my non-dog hunting properties....because the deer acted different. Turkeys did, too.....because they ran dogs for training, rabbits, and coons, right up until the season. It’s impossible for there not to be an impact. Good/bad, how much, will vary, and nobody is talking about ‘banning’ anything......if you’ve got a lot of land, and manage use, then it might be a minor thing.....which is what the club here sounds like. ...but it’s still there.

I’m not and never have been a coon hunter

But I allow coon hunters

I’ve ran my rabbit dogs on my lease for 15 years.

Coyote hound hunters have permission also outside of deer and Turkey season.

Never seem to bother anything. Our taxidermist would agree.
