The litter from my fox red dam posted on the other thread is at 3 weeks today. Of the 8 pups, I may have 5-6 available for picks. I’ll announce here once the sire’s owner finalizes. The 49th day would be February 25th, which would be first day available, but I’m fine with holding picks another week at no extra charge, and longer can be negotiated. They’ll be well socialized to kids, dogs, and hopefully guns by 7wks. Should be leash broken, as well. The longer they stay with me, the more exposure they’ll get to various things such as kennel, vehicle, mouthing/retrieving, water, scent, feather, etc.....general working pup beginnings. Just my opinions, and everyone has their own. Many are much farther down the lab/working dog training scene than me these days, and you’ll know best, but I believe: It’s a better option to stay with the litter mates and dam longer, IF IF they’re getting socialized/exposed/etc beyond that 7wks. If you’re all over that socialization/exposure requirement from there to 16 weeks, starting with you and your environment at 7 is just fine. I don’t profess to be a trainer at all, any more. Did much more started dog work in my teen years, but I’ll do my best to expose them and set them up like I’ve always done my pups, before picked up, to be well adjusted and ready for new exposures. AKC packs are on the way. I HOPE for UKC dual to be finished/available, but I can’t promise that on the litter, at least before 7wks. Dam’s pedigree is heavy out of some well respected retriever/working kennels, with solid British/Irish field lineage, as well. Sire is a well bred, working retriever. Dam hunts well, also. Neither is titled, neither will have certs. This was a one time pairing, as we both wanted progeny from these respective dogs, so titles and certs are upstream at their parents/grandparents levels. They will have up to date vaccinations, worming, etc. I did not remove dewclaws on them, as I prefer my retrievers to keep them for use down the road. Primary lineage: https://www.duckhillkennels.com/https://www.huntfieldlabs.com/Having typed all that to explain the litter pricing, Prices will be $750 for Reds and $650 for yellows, regardless of sex. $100 deposit, to be held with us until pickup. Date of deposit confirmation will guarantee pick, and be deducted from final price, of course. Feel free to PM for pedigree info, etc. Once again, I will post on this thread whenever I’m ready for deposits, visits, picks. 3% to Skinny. PM for any further details. 👍
They’ve definitely hit second gear now. Just introduced some antler pieces for scent familiarization and teething. I’ll try to introduce duck and dove wings, spent shotgun shells, and some deer blood here and there as they grow, just to imprint some typical odors and target smells and wake up their nose/prey/gun connections early. Loud noises while feeding have no effect, and most are no longer even flinching when not feeding. Pots and pans are next. 22LR in about 10 days, I’d guess.
They’ve already hit the water bowl, all in.....none have any shyness about being wet or in the water. LOL Several decided it was pretty good to drink some, too....day 23.
