Black ducks. My opinion, the hardest puddle duck to kill.

That’s what I thought but I wasn’t sure. Never seen them. I guess it’s pretty rare to kill one much less 2 in Alabama?

It’s hell to shoot the best puddle ducks in the state and not even know what they are! 😀

I wouldn’t say rare, but not as common as they used to be. They are my favorite duck by far, and I have 3 of them mounted. I usually kill some every couple years.

Aint no ducks common in Alabama anymore........just sayin.

First black I ever remember killing was hunting a farm with small ponds on it back in early 90s. We killed 19 that morning & had a hell of a hunt. We lined the brick wall on a buddy's carport and took a pic. That black duck's head was a good 6" longer that the rest of the mallards and gadwalls. I have a pic somewhere.

Alabama is a decent state to try for a black duck since it borders the eastern flyway.

I'm with Hevi.. They are pretty rare. Most duck hunters can hunt all year, multiple years even and never see one. I've killed a couple on hunts over the years and regret not putting one on the wall. We had a flooded Timber hole and a thick and nasty private swamp at one time that held them decently. That was nearly 15 years ago though, I guess. I've been out of the duck game for quite a while.

We had a couple of em up in greentree that eventually every jacka$$ in the county had to of started hunting. Back then we would upload pictures of piles of duck to myspace, which didn't help us keep anything secret. slap

I’ve got this drake and a hen with Blake Wilson right now. Can’t wait to get them back.

I'd be at the taxidermist same day. Killing one is uncommon. Killing a pair together is damn near unheard of. Congrats!

I've seen one killed in my life. We broke ice in a soybean field outside Crowder and my buddy killed the 1st duck we saw just after legal time. Turns out that the ducks left overnight due to the fields being locked up. Ended up being the only duck we killed and one of maybe half a dozen we saw all morning after killing 3 limits in 3 hours the day before.
