I’m wanting to buy some of the $35/box stuff and no one has any in stock. Anybody know where I can find any? #4’s if possible.

Check out these from Boss Shotshells. I think they have some in stock, but I don’t know how long they take to ship. These are 3” but they sell 2 3/4 as well.

Kent Bismuth is a good shell, if you can find them. I shoot them out of my 20. Try Mack's Prairie Wings. Its tough to find at the end of a normal year, probably be extremely difficult to find this year. Wing Supply had some Bismuth shot earlier in the season, not sure of the brand.

Shot Boss this year. Really like it and beats spending time reloading. Reloading steel is a very slow process.

So, what shot size do you use for the duck/yardage combo you encounter? My only opportunity is wood duck, but some of the shots are passing at long range. I shot 3” steel 2’s and crippled a bunch and had to water swat or break necks. I really think most of that is my poor shooting. But, if I switch to Boss bismuth, I’m trying to decide on 3’s vs 4’s in the more dense alloy. And hopefully increase pellet count.

For woodies I’d go 4s out of what you mentioned. I shot 3x5s on decoying birds. It really folded them up.

It did remind me of the days of lead shot which I shot 4s back then.

Lead was your friend. We would load shells with4s or 5s and have so much shot in them some we would melt wax on top to keep shot from coming out.

Alabama Woodies - for a 20 gauge, I usually go with 3 inch, 1 oz, #3 or #4. For 12 gauge, I go with 2 3/4 inch, 1 1/4 oz #3 or #4. Shots are usually less than 30 yards.

I shot the BOSS 3x5's also this year. Gives a good mix of shot and seemed to work well. The 3 inch shells hit as hard as any 3 1/2 inch shell I have used with significantly less recoil. Ducks were mostly killed dead when I did my part.

Will be ordering another case for next year and may add a case of #3's for late season. The past 3 years I have shot significantly less. Just wanted to make sure that I capitalized on my limited opportunities. After shooting them for 2 years, I won't go back to steel.

Choke that bismuth tight, like lead.

I better order some before all you sum bitches deplete their stock.

The 20 GA 2 3/4 #5 are hell on ducks and light geese.

Best I can tell BOSS and Hevi Bismuth are the same except for a copper coating on BOSS and 20 shells per box instead of 25.

I like the idea of bismuth, but I want better than that. I want 12 g/cc tungsten or better. Dont shoot enough to worry about cost at all. Will still shoot cheap steel on ringers and woodies but want something badarse to wreck pintails and mallards with late season. Who makes it? Or is there a source to get some shot density in between TSS and lead that would make it worth my while to load my own?

Kent Tungsten was always a favorite, when I found them on sale...not seen a decent sale on them in a while!
Apex is a Miss'ippi company that has a TSS load and a TSS/Steel mix load for waterfowl.
I've also shot HEVI and liked them

Just buy straight up TSS from Apex. $4+/shot though...

And yes, true Hevi-13 is 13g/cc density.

Kent Tungsten Matrix

Edit: my bad I thought this stuff was 12g/cc but it’s only around 11
