I have a 2018 GMC Sierra SLT 4x4.. really nice truck with only 36k. But the transmissions has always shifted a little hard on the down shift but only at times. Looking to trade it in for a Tacoma TRD. I need the 4x4 and have to use it every weekend on my hunting property.

Any issues with the Tacoma over the past couple years? The transmission threads have me thinking to go ahead and pull the trigger.

I had a Tacoma. It was a very nice truck. Gas mileage was no better than a full sized and going from a full sized to a Tacoma SUCKED because of the room I lost.

I have yet to see a thread describing all the issues people are having with Fords. Just pointing that out maybe there are issues with an F-150 I wouldn't know I am not necessarily brand loyal but what's wrong with a Ford?

The problem with Toyotas is they are expensive to fix if you have to fix one out of warranty. Toyotas always seem to have something you gotta change right out of warranty like a stupid timing belt or something that the Stealership is going to want your first born to cover the cost... they are more expensive up front but re-sale is a little better, etc. The reason to get one has always been to drive it until the wheels fall off but do people really do that or just pretend?

Gas mileage is never great and possibly that's because they are underpowered. Maybe that's no longer the case.

Just saying that I'm not sure because it has Toyota written on the side of it makes it the ultimate solution.

I have a Toyota pickup BTW.

No problems out of any Toyota and yes the room going from full size to the Tacoma will take some getting use to. I would wait until middle if the year when the redesigned Tundra comes out.

I think I'd give anything "re-designed" a couple model years to work the bugs out. Seems to be the case with every manufacturer.

On your Sierra, if it's shifting hard make an appointment with the dealer and have them check it. The fluid most likely needs to be swapped over and it should fix it. Dealer told me to watch for it at around 40K miles. I'm at 30K right now.

If I were to buy a new truck it would be a Tundra no question.

I would trust a redesigned Toyota than any of the shucks that the big three manufacturers are putting out there. There's a reason there arent widespread problems with Toyota because they make reliable stuff. As far as switching fluid, I could have changed the fluid a 100 times and it would have still went out. The reason is because they are faulty and GM knows it.

I think he was saying wait until the new models come out to get a better deal on the last of the V8 engines...at least that is what I'm waiting on. Don't ever want to be a "pioneer" in a new model anything! I don't have the patience for it to sit outside the shop while they wait on parts to be produced. There are always issues on the new model to be worked out, along with rattles and squeaks.

I’d go with the Tundra over the Tacoma. But both are good looking and reliable trucks.

I drive a 2009 Tacoma 4x4 and a 2016 Tundra pro. I treat the Tacoma like a sxs and abuse the crap out of it. Aside from that the Tumdra is way more truck for not too much more money. Both have been and are very reliable

If GM is having that much transmission problems there's prolly a class action law suit in their future.

The Tacoma will do anything the Chevy will. It may take more to ge the load moving and more to get the load stopped, but it will do it. Chevys just arent what they used to be. The 90 models were their best. The new Chevys just dont cut it in my book. Tacomas are bullett proof and dont ask for much in the way of maintenance.

I have a Tacoma that's about to turn over 300,000 miles with very few repairs over the years. My next truck will be.....
a Tacoma.

I have a 06 Highlander with 308,000 miles and haven’t changed the transmission fluid.

Can’t go wrong with Toyota. If it were me I’d stick with a full size and go tundra. The Tacoma’s are great but I need the room.

I bought my wife a used 4Runner last year and it's under powered in my opinion. The response and get up is not even close to my 5.3 V8. I am sure thats the motor options in the Tacoma so may need to really look at the Tundra. But the 14mpg really sucks and personally I like the way a Ford or GMC looks way better.

Are you going to be ok going smaller in the cab? The truck looks big, but you can feel it inside.
