Gonna need all the help/tips I can get. Wanting to start an AR build in a 308 soon. I have never built one and really don’t think I understand what all goes into it. If y’all can help point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. I’ll take all of the help I can get

With prices so high right now the first thing I suggest is go hit up an academy or something like that and at least buy a couple mags before they disappear and soar to $100 a piece. Magpul brand Sir. After that keep tabs on bear creek arsenals deals and palmetto state armory’s deals, new frontier, delta team tactical to name a few cheaper places. But right now go BUY ANYTHING related to it you can put your hands on. Mags, stocks, buffer tubes, etc etc .

Unless you already have the necessary parts, you may be a day late and a dollar short...have you checked around on the availability of parts needed?

Not all AR10 uppers and lowers are compatible.
I can't pull the link up here at work due to our firewall, but check here...it should tell which uppers and lowers are compatible with each other

AR15 is mil spec. AR-10 is not. Stay brand specific.

Just finished one. Started sourcing the parts in Nov. it will take patience and it will be hard to stay brand specific right now. I actually found more of the hard to find parts locally. I bought a fully assembled aero lower from vans a couple weeks ago for $325. Took me an hour to get someone on the phone to confirm they had one but, it was worth the wait.

Barrels can be really hard to find in what you need right now.

You could find stripped lowers two weeks ago online. Price was outrageous and they were smaller companies where the compatibility issues could occur

BCGs are scarce

10 parts have always cost more than 15s and it isn’t going to be a cheap build right now

Buy what you can immediately when you find it. If it doesn’t work out, you have a valuable item to trade with someone that might have exactly what you need

Hammerhead and Bigbore are right. Most stuff marked “LR-308” is DPMS pattern and it’s what most big “builder” brands specialize in. I’d avoid anything Armalite personally unless it is a complete rifle. You’ve got some more oddballs out there like Rock River Arms LAR-08 that use metric FAL mags, early Bushmaster 308s utilized the same. Stay LR-308 for less headache.
