Wheeler and Guntersville usually hold some. This year wheeler had been better for them. If you got a boat then hit em up. But you need to spend 4 times the amount of time scouting than hunting.

I don’t have a boat. I’m thinking about going somewhere next year. I’ve found several places in Texas that seem really good. Have seen some place in the mobile bay and down around Panama City as well. I’m afraid of the Alabama Florida hunt because I know how duck hunting can be in Alabama.

I lived in Corpus Christi, TX back in 2008. The Laguna Madre up to Rockport is absolutely slammed with stud redhead drakes rafted up by the thousands. When we would take off out of KNGP they were everywhere up and down the coast.

Killed my first redheads down there. You can also get into some cast and blast outfits.

Good deal. Only red head I’ve ever seen buzzed the decoys in a lease I had in Crowder. There were 5 of us in the blind and we all missed. I think we’re were so stunned to see one, none of even got down on the stock to make a good shot!

Corpus Christi is where it’s at. Like posted above, redheads by the thousands. Plus pintails, widgeons, teal, you name it

I've shot them in 5 or 6 states but Texas is the best bet for consistent numbers. There are probably some big lake hunters in the Central flyway that work them pretty regular too.

Redheads are all over tampa Bay. Actually did a guided duck hunt a couple weekends ago and should've limited out in the first hour if we would've been shooting better. We saw multiple groups that were well over a hundred birds. We were in a boat blind in open water with the skyway bridge and st pete in the foreground. Had one group of 2k redheads and bluebills land about 600 yards in front of us and sit there the entire hunt.

I'm a little late to the party, but we killed bunches of them over the years. We primarily hunted the inter-coastal down by the Naval Air Station, Escambia Bay and now outside Panama City. Red Heads are diving ducks, you want see as many, down here in Alabama, up rivers as you will closer to the coast. I've been doing this since you could kill 10 ducks a day - up to 4 red heads - 10 blue bills - 10 mergansers (which we rarely ever shot, just a tough not much meat on it duck) -- I remember in the 80's it went down to 1 red head a day. It was all in when you killed them, we could kill 9 blue bills, then make the red head our last duck. We didn't have a boat, we hiked the decoys down to the beach, we ran a little over 100 decoys sometimes over 150 if we had someone that like to set up close to us. I remember the walk out on Pensacola Beach was awful from the road to the beach. At Gulf Beach, it was a lot easier to get to the water.
