Bought a tenpoint vapor this year and have been really impressed with it so far. It came basically ready to hunt, bolts, evo-x scope, broadheads, etc. The field tips and broadheads are both 100 grain and field points patterned well out to about 60 yards, though they were consistently 2-3" high at each 10-yard increment. (The scope has tick marks at 10-yard increments, and the cross hairs are marked for 20). The scope has a speed setting that adjusts the tick marks on the scope so the tick marks can be accurate at each distance when the speed setting on the scope matches actual bolt speed...seems to work generally well.

However, to address being consistently 2-3" high at each distance past 20 (30, 40, 50, etc), I decided to try heavier field tips (125gr) to see if that would bring me more in line. Note, I've already maxed out the speed setting on the scope (it's max is 450, but this crossbow advertises 470). So, I can'take any further adjustments with the scopes adjustments. This is why I decided to try 125gr field tips.

When using the field tips I bought at a local shop, I've got two bolts that fly true, but two other bolts that shoot wildly to the right 6-8" each time since switching.

I'm not sure what could be going on here, but I wonder if it has something to do with the field tip, since I didn't seem to have this problem when shooting 100's. These tenpoint Evo-x bolts all did great on the spin test before shooting them, too.

Any of y'all ever heard of this? Could there be something do do with the field points? It's the same two bolts every time.

I plan on fooling around with it more when I get home tomorrow to see if the issue solves itself when I change out field tips.

Any input helps!

I would just contact 10pt and save yourself some frustration. They have a great service department.

If 100 grain shoot straight then stick with them. Print a sticker and stick to the xbow and make the tick marks 25, 35, 45 vs 20, 30, 40.

Just dealt with this issue with mine. Check your bolts. I had 6 bolts of out a dozen of black eagles that did not have the insert glued in very well, it was causing vibrations and horrible flight patterns. Every time I would loosen or tighten a head, it would twist the insert into a different position. That’s how I found it. As far as your scope issue, try the 125s and maybe even shimming your scope. Take a feeler gauge and make shims out of the correct thickness you need. Add this shim between the scope and the ring. This is an old trick a well known gun smith showed me to gain elevation adjustment on your scope.

Update here. After this mornings hunt I got back out with the crossbow to troubleshoot some more.

After looking at the problem bolts for issues, I notice deep "wear marks" where the flight rails had been wearing into the bolts. These bolts are supposed to have +/- .001" straightness, but the wear was at the very back end of the mock, and the wear lines were about an inch long and had already worn through the paint/wrapping. These bolts have individually been fired less than 10 times, so the misalignment must have been significant.

This issue doesn't exist on any of my other bolts.

I took the nock off and rotated so that another "non-cock" feather was sitting between the flight rails, and drilled bullseye twice in a row after the adjustment.

I'm wondering if I should just toss these bolts. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to keep them for varmints, but Im just not sure whether I need to keep using these bolts if they are out of line so bad...even if rotating them to another feather fixes the accuracy issue. Wouldn't want one of those things to bust during a shot.

I called Tenpoint but have not received a call back yet. When I hear from them I will explain what I found this weekend.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

I know it will group out to 60 yards, but by limiting your distance to 30-35 and under in shooting deer, you will be eliminating a bunch of unforeseen issues in the future.

And with the correction of the nocks on the 2 bolts and they are hitting correctly now, I'd use them after more target shooting with them to make sure they hit correctly.

Just my thoughts.

God Bless,
David B.

I went round and round with bolts and heads two years ago.
I bought new bolts and I’m all good. Nothing like dealing with a bow imo.
