Against my better judgement I decided not to hunt the clearcut and am in an oak bottom in Baldwin county. Beautiful morning.

8 does feeding now on food plot. 12 so far this morning. No bucks.

A bobcat, 5 does and a young 6pt so far. He was running around shaking his pecker at one of the does. 😆

I’ll be in the woods around 9:20 and sit till 1. Once frost burns off watch out!!

Just sat down for a few hr sit then goin slip around

Best hunt of the year so far for me. Brought my bow out l, sat on a little hardwood knoll I knew had been tore up with rubs last year, and blind grunted up a bachelor group that had a really nice mature 8 point with them. I was at full draw and he was just about to hit my 30 yard window and made a turn at the last second walking away. I pulled out all the tricks on him, snort wheezed, grunted some more, but he wouldn't commit to coming over. I got to watch this deer make at least three scrapes and smack around a half dozen trees he was so pissed off at me. One of his satellite spikes came over to investigate at about 10 yards and I had to bear hug my bow with frozen hands for about 15minutes while I watched big boy in the back at 60.

After about 45 minutes and the spike easing off I thought big boy and his buddy were going to feed my way, but something off in the distance spooked the lead one and they bounded off.

Was a good morning for me. I hunted before work. Was late getting to my spot and already had deer out. Was a good 8pt on the treeline when I walked in but he eased off before I could kneel down and get a shot off. About the same time a group of 6 does and a buck behind them ran behind me across the field. All within 5 minutes of me walking into the spot and being about 10ft from the ladder stand. When. They ran off I went ahead and got into the ladder stand and within 30 minutes a 6pt came out. Shot him with the 45-70. Gutted and skinned and hanging on the skid steer at our shop now. all without being late for work. Deer are out today boys.

Those damn cell cams have been sending me pictures all morning with some nice bucks standing there in broad daylight and I’m stuck trying to make a dollar

Well no luck fella's..I tracked him for 450 yards and lost blood in a deep hollow about 200 yards from the property line. I covered the remaining property in the hollow but no deer no blood. Sick... Big thanks to Morris for offering to help track . Unfortunately I'm all out of time till late Friday evening or Saturday. Work ruins everything.
In hindsight I just made a piss poor shot. Sucks to because I shot my steel plates in that same cutover and from same hill back during the summer...more than once. I had a decent shooting lane but wind was blowing so hard the sage would block my window and I believe I miss timed my shot between wind gusts. My eyes feel like beef jerkey after the last 36 hours. I had him dead to rice until he wasn't..

Joe - u asked several replies back - not sure what sign you have on your hardwoods but cutover or gasoline sound hard to beat

Thanks. This is my favorite rifle. Had John Gallagher do some work to it several years ago when I first got it. I love this thing.

It cuts down the noise ALOT. The barrel is cut down to 16.5” so it makes a big boom without the can. Saves my ears for sure. It does cut down on recoil too but the SBL is pretty heavy anyway so it doesn't recoil bad at all in my opinion.

Anybody got any thoughts on which morning will be better in central Alabama. Either tomorrow or Thursday?

My deer move better when ground is thawed but I've seen good bucks after ice storm too..I just go whenever I can..I didn't see jack this evening

My daughter killed her largest yet this pm. I let the kids say if they want to shoot a buck with no rebuttal from me these days. I nearly ruined them in their early years being picky. She said she wanted to kill him. So I told her make it happen.

First time I’ve hunted at our farm this year. Decided to carry my dad’s Winchester model 70. I’ve never hunted with it before. I was watching three does feeding when my wife called me. I talked to her and 5 minutes later, this fellow walked out. First buck I’ve shot at our farm in 16 years.
