Been awhile since I been on here thought I would share a lil opening day track call.
Hunter shot around 7 sat morning 300 wsm at 175 yds. Got down to go look and jumped the deer bedded about 50 yards from the shot site he went ahead and tracked for about 200 yards and lost blood and backed out. I got the cur dog express loaded up and went over there met the guy about 3 talked to him and he said it was definitely a gut shot I'm thinking this may not end well since they go a ways on a gut shot if there jumped. I get in there and get to the hit site and it was no doubt gut long white hair and gut matter on the ground. We head out the on the blood and cover the first 200 pretty quick and get to last blood and dog keeps going I trust him being right and let him keep working and dragging me through the god awfullest privet hedge thicket I have been in in a long time.we wind around in there and somewhere he got off the track. We backed out to last blood and away we went again back in that mess. Get down into a dry creek bed and there is coolest lil opening with about knee high grass in the middle of that mess and there laid a nice 6 point stiff. His shot was definitely a lil back and the bullet hit a rib I guess and turned south and blew out and the guy plugged the hole so when the blood stopped it stopped. The dog kinda had to work a lil on this one it was pretty warm around 72 when we started and been dry so it was tough on him but we got him for the guy. I guess if there is a moral to the story is these deer are tough and the actions immediately after the shot can make the difference of a successful recovery or needing a dog or not finding them at all. I was less than a 100 yards from having to call the track out due to property line issues when we got him
