At my club we have had pictures of this one hog for a few years. Nobody has seen him during season, usually just 2-3 pictures before season then gone. Well this year he started showing up more and more. Well yesterday afternoon I had a doe and twin fawns on the field when they spooked and ran off. Then this boar comes out and stops to feed. Dial my sight to 40 yds and release. Hit him in the front shoulder, he wheels and runs off with the arrow falling out. After about 10 minutes I get down and get my arrow with a bent point on the rage and climb back up.
Probably 25 minutes later a spike comes out and starts feeding for a while then he leaves and the hog makes a return. Same yardage and I shot under him. He runs to the edge of the thicket and comes back a little closer this time. I can hear him sniffing the air and the hair on his back his raised. Finally stopped about 30ish yards and I center punched him. He hauls butt with the arrow still in him. Once it gets dark I go get flashlight and pistol and start trailing him. Just specks of blood at first then it got heavier and then specks again. I decided to give up since I was walking in a thicket with flashlight, pistol and a wounded boar hog. Wished I would have found him tho.

Or too smart, I'd say.
Going into thick brush, at night, with just a pistol and flashlight, chasing a wounded hog.
That's when the little voice in your head says, "hey man this is probably a bad idea".

But at the end of the day it’s the kind of stuff that always makes for a good story

Do as you please but I shot one at dark a few years ago on my way out of the woods. It was in a plot I had to cross. I knew I hit him. Walked to the edge of the field and heard him chopping real loud. I decided I was just fine with him being there and me on my way out. He was the second one I hit. I picked up the sow I dropped and left. She had wiggling babies in her when I picked her up. Surprised she didn’t drop them when I shot her. Anyway, don’t be chasing a dumb pig into the dark bush!! You know what I mean.

Don't blame me for your bad decision-

I would have backed out too. I gut shot a big bobcat one afternoon right when I was about to start climbing down. I got about 50 yds into one of those cutovers that's thick enough that you have to climb through it a step at a time before it dawned on me that it may just still be alive and pissed. I had left my bow at the road and all I had on me was a folding knife. The next morning I found it about 15 yds past where I had stopped. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't find it the night before.

Wild hog is some of the best pork God ever created. An 80 to 150 pound sow is ideal.
Best butts, hams, and sausage you ever put in your mouth.
