I am hunting in a shady area of woods and want to plant/ throw seed on the ground. Im not really concerned about how thick it grows. Just as long as there are some growth there. The area may get some broken sun during the day, but mostly shady. Would I be safe in using, wheat, rye, and oats?

I threw out a 3 way today. The kids enjoyed helping. Its going to be a bow stand along a creek. I will post an update in a couple of weeks. I put 30lbs out in about a 30x30 area

I would plant crimson clover. It's an annual which means it will grow good this fall. Grows ok on poorer soils, which sounds like what you have. Cheap too, bout $56/50lb bag.

Btw, even clover needs some sun. If nothing is growing there now, clover wont grow. If theres adequate sunlight and decent dirt, weeds will grow.

Our land just got selected cut this summer. They finished 2 weeks ago and I have some good shooting lanes that I am going to broadcast in. I figured the logging would have driven the deer away, but I jumped 3 does yesterday while walking.

Pine plantations are highly acidic so for it to do well liming is a must. Too late for the lime to help for deer season, but maybe for turkey. I hope you have a good stand.
