I’ve got 2 ladders, a ground blind and a treehouse for my close to
home bowhunting.
But my mobile setup this year is going to be as a ground pounder.
I’d welcome any tips from folks who do it regular and have success. Been watching some YouTube videos. I know it’s doable. I have some ideas. But I welcome tips as well.

I did it a ton in Michigan. I played the wind as usual and always tried to have intersecting trails. In thick stuff I was often maybe 15yds from the trail and still killed deer. All of our ground blinds were built of natural stuff in the area during the summer.
I actually built a ground blind trying to kill that bull this year and that's where I shot him from. I never have a level blind, I leave twigs poking up all over with a few main shooting spots that I can do while sitting down. It's fun and same as in the air, limit movement and they'll get close.

Kodiak, you use some kind of seat? I have a millennium tree seat. I even thought about something like a dove stool.

I've used a dove seat before but if it squeaks it's gone lol. The one this year had a natural rise in it from a big root and I took a soft cushion.
What was fun once in Michigan was we had like a hole in a clearcut and we dug out a pit blind. It was fun to hunt out of but down there it maybe a good place for a snake.
I Washington county we had a ground blind near an oat patch that we just used a camping chair but the kids always had a gun there.

Oh, a round from a cut tree (log) works really well, we have one in the weeds by the field with all the elk. I threw a big one out and it was actually comfortable.

AC the best tip I can give you for on the ground bow hunting is to get an ASAT leafy suit. Deer will literally walk right by you if the wind is right. I had 4 does mill around for 10 minutes about 20 feet from me, then they passed by within 6 feet of me while wearing mine a few years. It was if they were looking through me. I already knew the suit worked, but if you can fool Marshall county mama deer that close, it's good stuff.

The only deer I have ever killed with my bow from the ground was a doe a long time ago. I was sitting on a white and yellow hyrdaulic fluid bucket that loggers had left behind.

I use natural cover and sit behind a tree from where I think the deer will travel, i usually cut a couple small leaf limbs and stick in ground around where I sit and one to hold in my hand. Just be prepared for the deer to travel a different route and to draw your bow and hold longer than your used to. Ive killed 3 with my butt on the ground but thats cuz they snuck up on me, ideally I like to be on one knee to where I can shift around the tree if needed. I also like to hunt on ridge with decent wind but it still swirls a bit, thats just part of hunting Bama and just pray it doesn't happen with a deer close by.

I hunt from the ground quiet a bit with a bow. I use a gillie suit top that I cut off below the chest. I dont see the need for bottoms or the lower part of the jacket. I use a 3 legged stool to sit on. I cant sit on my knees or the ground for very long. Keep your wind away from where their coming from, have a little front and back cover and you'll be good. I shot a buck at 12 yards off the ground last week. It sure is alot of fun.

I've killed more from the ground than I have in a stand with a bow. I try to stay in the shade and keep my face covered. Usually during bow season I just wear a thin long sleeve camouflage shirt and thin pants. They'll walk right by as long as they don't catch you moving

AC, I've got a sling seat on the way. I will let you know what I think about it after I use it a few times. My plan is to set it up on a tree with a quick throw down turkey blind in front of me. The sling chair "looks" like it should be comfortable. I've got a bad back, so we'll see.

Yeah. I’d like to hear how it works.
Larry O’Dell checked out my crossbow, re-served it. Could be a game changer for the ground pounding.

The answer to your question is HECS!!! Guaranteed to let you lip drag the biggest buck in the woods out to the truck!! No need to worry about anything else, just cause electrical interference and they will never know what hit'em!

Deer seeing you on the ground isn’t the problem. It ain’t that hard to hide from a deer. Them smelling you is a what makes it difficult.

I’m primarily going to try ground hunting with my bow this year and my setup is just a leafy suit with a turkey lounger chair. Might be alittle heavy, but it seems like it’s gonna be comfy.

I hunt from the ground almost exclusively up here. I use a summit stump and it’s extremely comfortable.

AC, Crossbow is a no-brainer for the ground, I have killed three 120-class bucks sitting on the ground with crossbow, two of them (separate hunts) stood there as if nothing happened and toppled over dead at twenty-five to thirty steps. The other bucks with them stood around looking at each other with no clue what happened. I wear a leafy suit and sit next to a bush or tree with a lot of vines hanging. But, I would recommend illuminated nocks, could not even see the impact of the bolts, and the way the deer acted, swore that I had missed or something went wrong until they fell over dead!

Oh not just any leafy suit will do. If you have a leafy suit that isn't ASAT camo, then you need an ASAT camo leafy suit.

There's a bowhunting site that has a ton of used clothing for decent prices - which one is it?
