What years did Alabama have the 6 bird limit? I was thinking mid 80s to mid 90s but can’t find any info.

It wasn't in the mid-90s, at least not in 1994 or thereafter. If there was one it was before then.

There's a limit????

My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

I’d thought it changed back to 5 birds in 96 or so. Killed my first limit I thought in 94 and was later told by a biologist that I didn’t limit out. Never could find that actual time frame and was curious.

In 94 I bought a 1300 turkey gun & killed a limit of 6 that year. It changed to 5 bird limit the next season.

I never understood why it changed to six or back to five. By 96 I had adopted three as my personal limit so it didn't matter to me what the state limit was.

I did kill a six bird limit with my Navy Arms 12 ga SxS muzzleloader before then.

I remember asking Corky exactly that. He said "I don't think anyone needs to kill 6" Theres a biological justification if ever I heard one. Kinda like the current administration....

I asked Gary once why we couldn't hunt hogs in summer on WMAs.

"Who would want to do that? It's hot."

Um, yeah. Biology. "No one needs ..." and "I don't like that so no one should do it." are terrible strategies for management. Used frequently, though, by real biologists and Holiday Inn biologists.

I'll say this about Corky, he was right about the buck limits in regard to losing personal choice and a freedom to the "no one needs, you better hunt how I hunt!" mob, and that it likely would snowball into other things once that gate was torn off the hinges.

I will agree with that. Given what I know now, and the discussions I had with him regarding buck limits, I wouldn't have gone the way I did.

Clem, when I first went to work in 1980 or 81 Chester Pugh asked me to ride to Montgomery with him. We went by the office and Chester asked Chief Dalton Halbrook if we could get reimbursed for buying hip waders to work duck hunting. I'll never forget Daltons reply. He said he would look pretty stupid wearing hip waders around the office....WTH? His opinion was that if he didn't need em then we didn't either. After we left I asked if the office folks were always that stupid...Chester replied "usually". And he was pretty right on.

If he could've better explained it to me and I'd listened more intently, I'd probably have understood it back then. But, that's all in the past. Lessons learned. One main reason I don't like "No one needs ..." and "You better hunt how I like to hunt or ..." bullchit now.

That's completely idiotic. By that measure you didn't need a gun, truck or dog since he didn't need one at the office.

oh, they didn't like my dog at all. I went to Louisiana and bought her myself. Traveled to train her on my time. Dept didn't pay for anything about her.

I kept detailed records of her upkeep costs and very case we made together, and separate notes on cases I made that I could not of made without her expertise. She made thousands of dollars for the state with very little costs. I asked the Dept to allocate funds to buy one dog for each district. They wouldn't hear of it, it COSTS too much. Idiots.

Sounds about right Fred! My boss at MRD called me in one morning and tossed me an Under Armor Ninja mask and asked if I ever had one. This was when UA first came on the scene. He had gone on a ride with enforcement in a boat and said it the warmest thing he had ever worn on his face and to order all the biological section one. I said they would probly really love it if they had some UA long thermals to which he replied "don't you stay behind the center console...your body should be fine!

so I bought my own and may have hinted that the state bought it and maybe not but....$%^^^^#*$!!! when the crew hit the bosses office demanding equal treatment! Suckers...
