I plant in late winter/early spring, as soon as it gets dry enough. Late February is my preferred time but it rarely works out that way. The earlier the better. I usually plant 2-3 rows. Cut the "seed" potatoes up into 1/2, 1/3's or 1/4's, depending on size. Leave at least one eye on each piece. Don't get greedy, the new potato plant uses the potato for energy until it grows roots. If you cut the pieces too small, the new potato plant may not have enough energy to survive.

Plant your rows far enough apart to easily run a tiller between them. I plant mine about 3 1/2 feet apart. Put the cut seed potatoes on top of the ground, one every 14"-16" apart and cover with 3-4" of dirt. Put some triple 17 fertilizer down the row, then rake dirt onto and over the potato forming a mound. The mound should run the whole length of the row. When the potato plant is 6" tall, tiller down both sides of each row. Use a rake to pull dirt from both sides up onto the potato plants. I cover everything except the very top of the plant. When another 6"-10" of plant comes out the top of the hill, repeat the process, but put down a copious amount of 5-20-20 fertilizer after tilling and before raking. I cover with dirt twice after they come up. My hills will be 14"-16" tall. A few weeks after the plants start blooming you'll have small potatoes and you can dig by hand around a few plants to get some "new" potatoes. When the vines die, leave them a couple of weeks and dig them all. Allowing the vines to die, makes the skin on the potatoes harden up.

Place the potatoes in a well ventilated area, on a ventilated shelf. Cover them with lime. That helps pull moisture from the potato and helps them store longer.

I plant red potatoes.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I plant around the feb 15 for spring taters and early to mid September for fall taters. This year I planted some red, Yukon gold and white kenebec. The white and gold are not near as productive as the reds are. My go to is the Red Lasota.
