I have done pretty good bowhunting out of a doghouse ground blind. I think the key is to set them up at least a month in advance of the season to let the deer get used to it. Brush it in good too. I only open the windows just enought to be able to shoot out of and the blind will also hold a lot of scent in and cover your movement. Have had bucks within 10 yd.s of it before.

I went to the ground last year Due to health reasons. I really enjoyed it besides hunting from the ground is how I started out back in the day anyway.

I've hunted on the ground several times thru the years. I've killed one and had numerous other opportunities on smaller deer that I've passed on. It's alot of fun to me.

I hunt on the ground often, but the biggest issue I have now is I get sore feet and tired overall because I like to stand and keep my release on the string when on the ground. I seem to get had less often on the ground because I'm more aware of the wind and my movements ( I think). I will say that I prefer to do it when the leaves are dry so I can get in shooting position prior to seeing the deer. I don't like to have much in front of me though. I like either to have a very large tree behind me (1/3 wider than my.shoulders) or hunt out of a downed tree top so I can sit in almost a standing position. Though I have set up against cedars or in thickets.

One really nice thing about hunting the ground is the ability to just pick the right spot rather than looking for a tree I can climb. And like you I hate carrying a stand in blind on public. I'd rather move in more quietly and have flexibility to adjust my location if needed.

Bow hunting on the ground is a major rush. Get the wind in your face with brush behind you so your not spotted as easily. Be ready to draw as soon as you see them coming and be real still. It’s a blast

I’ve killed 2 deer from the ground. Cleared out all the leaves and broke off limbs and stuck in a circle around a tree. I would much rather be elevated. We used to hunt St. Clair Management Area, and I didn’t have a climbing stand. I had a 6 point jump the string on me hunting from the ground.

You can use a camouflage umbrella like you use over a climbing stand. That will hide any front movement from you.
