I bought an olive green lariat jacket a couple of years back. It's great for warmth and keeping the wind out.

It be's that way sometimes.

Pnuma Gear Insulator Jacket. I wear the vest for bowhunting throughout the year and it is a really good piece for a really reasonable price.

Not alot underneath, you won't need it. On the cold days I wear a good base layer and a fleece 1/4 zip under it . The Duck Oven is a little better insulated than their whitetail hunting stuff. I guess it's designed for water fowl hunting in the super cold and wind. Very light and not bulky at all. Wind will not penetrate it. Link below.

Next time we get down in the single digits up in the top right corner, I'll invite you up for a hunt , but you MUST wear JUST a T shirt on top. I guess if you always hunt in the cab of a truck or sit in a shooting house it doesn't take much clothing.

I like the cabela’s wooltimate.
Seems to me that for bama and Mississippi they work great on the colder days with minimum under layers needed.

I’ve started using down coats the last couple of years and it has worked great for me.

Arctic Shield Elite Parka or Sitka Duck Oven.

You can wear Outback's t-shirt under either of them and be toasty.

Best I've found for purely being warm is Kifaru's Lost Park Parka. Its warmer than even my Sitka stuff. Its not made for busting through thickets though

Do you just want to be legitimately warm without question? Buy a down jacket. I got one last year and it changed my perspective on how comfortable I could actually be during cold weather. You put one on and there's an instant warmth there that can't be recreated with synthetic jackets.

I bought some old school Browning hydrafleece from perch when he lost all that weight.
Even on the coldest wettest, windiest day, you only need a thin base layer.
That stuff is amazing. I can't imagine why they quit making it.

I thought you wore a T shirt. rofl

I hope you washed it at least 3 times after you got it from Perch. grin

The old Browning hydro fleece is very warm, too warm for hunting in Bama for 99% of the time. I've had mine for probably 20 years and haven't used it 10 times.

That's why I said very thin base layer. And I only use the base layer to help keep my outer layer relatively scent free.
The less skin contact the better the scent control.

Browning Hydrofleece is good stuff. I also have a Drake MST pullover I can hardly wear unless it is below freezing and windy... and sitting still. Warm, water and wind proof for sure.

It really depends on where you hunt South of Montgomery it probably doesn't feeze but a few times a season. You just don't need a bunch of clothes. 18 degrees on the side of an icy mountain in Jackson would be a life changing experience for some and that is not abnormal.

I bought the primaloft coat and bibs. No need for insulated underwear. Midway USA has them on sale....

I've been colder in Jackson County than in Saskatchewan at -12 degrees and the wind howling . BTW, it was just about -2 in Ol' Hi-Jackson and still as a grave yard. eek

Military uses Primaloft. It is the best insulation I have ever used. I have goose down, and it is warmer.

The Cabelas MT050 before Bass Pro Shops took over was/is great. Also waterproof. I’ve slept through a monsoon with the hood over my head snug as a bug. Probably 2 days out of the year you need something that warm in Alabama. I got the coveralls, wishnI had got bibs/parka.

Boots/socks/head covering/layering wicking undergarments makes a ton of difference in the entire experience of staying warm.

Not sure about since BPS changed everything.

You’ve been here a while, so you know this basic stuff already.

Try some Browning primaloft under any wind resistant I let and you will be just fine without spending a fortune. Simmons $10/ bag sale a few weeks ago was a very good deal for me on this stuff

I second the old school Browning Hydrofleece. It’s not a jacket but I have wanted to try a heater body suit.

Milwaukee heated jacket or the Heated vest worn under a thinner jacket.
The jacket is heavy enough without the heat for most hunts, but if you start getting cold that last hour of the day you can kick the heat on.

Plythal has had their goose down parka on camofire for about $135 recently. That's a legit $350 parka and I wore it last year on a morning that started out at 15 degrees and never got above 28 degrees the whole day. I only had a merino wool base layer on under it and didn't get close to being cold.
