Just checking to see if anyone hunted the fields there this past weekend and if any birds were flying. Today’s my first chance to get out and I’m thinking of driving up there.

Went to Cahaba. Lots of shooters and sky busters, also I didn’t get the memo to wear running shoes so I could run out and pick up my birds before someone else ran out and claimed em. Some folks just got no sense.
Hope oakmulgee is different, good luck!

I went to one of the six fields cahaba WMA had as well. While I didn't see anyone running out and picking up anyone else bird, I did see more inconsiderate people than should be allowed to hunt. There were not enough birds for it to be a barrel burner, but there was enough to have a decent hunt had there not been so many people. In my opinion, the WMA's should have registration for each field and limit the number of people that hunt those fields for two reasons.
1, it would be much safer as there were people sitting 10-20 yards from some of the others and no they were not all family. I know this because I had a man walk up to me at 3:45 and sit down 10yds from me and I witnessed it happen to others. One man just got up and left after 4 guys came in and sat 20yds behind him. 2, it would allow for better hunts for everyone. The field we were on had so many people that when a bird entered the field it didn't stand a chance. As most of the birds were entering from two locations that mad it very difficult for birds to get to hunters on the opposite side of the field.
Also, It would be more fair, safer and I think better hunting if there were stand locations pre-marked with flagging or some marking and you had to stay within 5yds of that location unless someone left and then you could move to that location if you wanted.
To each their own but for me and my son we will not dove hunt the WMA again unless some kind of organization is done.

BC is right if a bird made it to the field it sounded like a warzone I once counted 25 different shots at a single bird. There was a quite a crowd, the one place I would have approved a little social distancing. Lol

Well I was the only one at the 1 acre filed I went to.. I saw plenty of birds, but because the field was small, the birds would circle the trees and land. I needed a few decoys out in the field and I might could have gotten them out of the trees.
