I've got a Browning rifle that I was misinformed about the thread pitch when I bought it. I bought a 5/8"-24 suppressor that's in jail for now and I just found out the rifle actually has the stupid Browning metric threads. I don't want to go the adapter route and am leaning toward having the barrel rethreaded. I'm also considering just selling it and starting over with a rifle with the appropriate thread pitch. Do any of y'all have any better ideas or know of a gunsmith that will rethread a barrel relatively close to Montgomery?

He is up in the Deatsville area. Check out his facebook page. There is also the Ammo Dump in Clanton. Also check out his facebook page. I know he rethread for you.

Just wondering is the mertic threads smaller than the 5/8X 24 so you don't have to cut the barrel back.

No experience with that one...

Check around different suppressor forums and make sure there isn't a mount that works with it. Lots of different mount options out there now.

adapter will be the simplest and cheapest way to remedy your situation.

I don't know what model you have, but often times sporting rifle barrels are considerably smaller diameter than 5/8" at the muzzle, so many are threaded 1/2-28. I only mention this because even if you sold your current rifle and bought another one with SAE threads it likely wouldn't be available in 5/8-24 and you'd end up having to buy an adapter anyway.

Thanks, that is the information I needed, and what I was afraid of. Looks like that one may be headed to the classifieds.

I considered this at first, but started reading about baffle strikes from using adapters. I really just want a direct mount, so I'm going to find a gun with the thread pitch I need. Thanks for the help fellas.

I got an ultra 9. Awesome suppressor.

I’m guessing you didn’t get the qd mount?

I can’t imagine they couldn’t just cut an inch of the barrel and then retread the end.
I got my Remington 700 with a 24” barrel cut down to an 18” and threaded. Costed about 150$

As a side note, if you’re not shooting over 400yds, I’d highly encourage you to get your barrel cut down to 18-20”.

That suppressor adds like 8-10”, so it’s a pain to wield around a gun with essentially a 32-34” barrel. I got my creedmoor to reach out and touch something but my .308 with a 18” is much better in the shoothouse and woods.

That's an option as well. I was just referring to cleaning up the threads that were already on it.

I would be fine with that. I'm not trying to set up a LR gun. Can you do that gundoc? Shoot me a pm if you want to talk about it. The gun is a Browning model 035440282

If gundoc can’t, It may be a bit of a drive, but tooter at Meredith rifles near Athens should be able to join you up. He did my Remington, and I’ve never heard a single bad word about any of his work

just make sure to measure the diameter of your barrel at the muzzle before you send it off somewhere to be threaded 5/8-24. If you've got a target/bull barrel profile you're probably fine, but if it a standard "sporting" style rife it may only be 1/2 in diameter.

Yeah we've already been discussing that. It's a mighty thin barrel.
