Anyone here have experience with Burris scopes? I'm considering an XTR II 1.5X8X28 mm for my AR.

Clarity? Reliability? Tracking? Low light performance?

Good bad or the ugly, lemme hear it.

I’ve had a couple signature series in the past and had no complaints. I’ve got a lower end full field II and it’s pretty good for the money

I have an XTRii 4-20x50 FFP, 34mm tube

Clarity--great from edge to edge
Reliability--the best in that price range IMO. I purchased after a few guys that run a long range shooting course--week after week, year after year--said its the most reliable variable power scope in sub-$2k range. They see them all.
Tracking--great, repeatable, consistent. Its built like a tank, including the turrets
Low light performance--not as good as Leupold VX5 in same price range.

For hunting only, I'd say look elsewhere because of the low light performance. And its overbuilt for that. And inherently heavy because of it.

For long range/close range shooting, for constant dialing, for rugged use, putting a lot of rounds downrange, not having to baby a scope....XTRii is great IMO.

The only other negative is the 34mm tube--limited on available scope rings.

They’re top of the line at their price point. I’ve owned a pile of them and only had problems with one (illuminated reticle started eating batteries) which Burris handled like a champ and had a brand new scope on my door step in a couple weeks....and that was during the 1st month of Wu-Flu shutdown.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Natchez Shooters has a good price ($532.49) on the 1.5x8x28 XTR II right now. Looks like a good compromise for both CQB and hunting situations.

Burris is good to go! I know in the higher power range they just came out with a XTR III that allegedly has much better glass than the II series. On a AR, the II series should be more than adequate.

You're only as good as your worst shot-

I'll probably go to something similar when I upgrade my AR optics. Have Burris AR332 on it now and am very pleased with it. Also gave a couple of Burris 2-7x35's that I like as well.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

The biggest thing is always the quality of the glass and coatings. Also look at Sightron. They make good scopes around the same price point. Bushnell still makes decent scopes as well and I feel like their coatings are a little better all around.

But yea, Burris makes some decent scopes. I've had an XTR and it was pretty decent just no Zeiss in low light. You can't have a $2,000 scope on every rifle if you have as many as some of us had before the flood.

Had a wide view 3x9x50 for 30 years I guess . Good as any thing else I've had. Don't know a thing about the new one now
