I'm looking for advice on a used 2014 King Quad 400 ASI I recently bought. First trip to camp after buying it, it's giving me problems. Starts from "cold" (summer time here in Alabama) instantly as soon as you touch the starter. Drives around perfectly fine for a while with strong power, then just dies once the engine gets hot. It refuses to restart until you let it sit for a while and cool off (maybe 30 minutes).
Now when I say hot, I don't mean hard riding. My 1 year old son was running back and forth retrieving tools at hunting camp maybe 250 yard trips and then it would sit powered off for 20 minutes or so until we needed another tool. After 5 or 6 of these trips, it was stuck in the woods until we let it cool off, then would return to normal for a couple more 200 yard trips.
The unit has approx 96 hours and 600 miles on it, and does not visually appear likes it's seen hard use. Other than a persistent squeak that I can't track down, it seemed like a good machine.
Any help will be appreciated, thank you

I'm more concerned about the 1 year old driving the 4wheeler. 😉
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

I thought the stator was just a battery charger ??
With mowers the symptoms you describe are ignition coil related. Something to look at anyway.

Air cooled or liquid cooled?
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

When it gets to hot and won't start trying putting gas directly to the carb (just a little). Carb cleaner may work also and see if it will fire. That will rule out a gas starvation problem. The last mower I worked on that I THOUGHT had a bad coil actually had a fuel flow issue but only after it had gotten hot.

Air cooled or liquid cooled? Wiley - thanks for the reply. This is an air cooled machine. I visually inspected the oil cooler radiator and it's very clean. Other than that, I am unsure what to trace down on an air cooled machine.

Is the fuel tank vent clogged? Don’t know, good question. How do I check?

Sounds like vapor lock due to engine heat or fuel cap not venting and creating a vacuum until some air can slowly get back in the tank.

If you followed the gas cap / vacuum creates starve directions in an earlier reply by others you may have already fixed the issue.
