I've never done or been apart of a controlled burn, so I'm looking for guidance.

I know that my 25 acres will need a burn and the neighbors 20 acres will need a burn also.

When is the best time of year to burn in Alabama?
Is it reasonable to approach the neighbor about burning both properties at the same time?
What are the steps involved? Dozer cut in the fire breaks, insurance, burn plan, watch the weather and then burn?
Is this something that for me will be best hired out or DIY with several friends and my neighbor having several friends helping also is feasible?

Problem solved. Just lite her up! 😊
The last time I burned the neighbors land, they didn't appreciate it at all! 😕

Hire it out. You’re looking at around 800$ plus dozer time to burn both properties.
Winter or spring would be the best time. If you’re in Auburn i could put you in contact with someone that would help you out.

It's 20 minutes outside Auburn, but ya I would appreciate a lead.

>>>Cut in the fire breaks, insurance, burn plan, watch the weather and then burn?<<<

That sums it up pretty well.

I have burned about 100 acres a year for 15 years, and have never had any serious problems. Do you have a tractor with some sort of plow? If the ground is fairly level and not too thick you can probably put the lines in yourself. Even if you have to hire the lanes done the first year, you can keep them up with a farm tractor. On a good burning day in February, it's not hard to maintain control of the fire. On the wrong day, it's easy to lose control. Pick the right day and you can do a burn that size with one helper, who has to do nothing more than watch. I have burned several times with my wife helping, and all she did was ride around in the golf cart.

All the info you need on how to do it is online. If you are willing to take the time to study, you can do it safely and effectively.
