I’ve got a buddy that just got done cleaning out stables and has to dump this stuff somewhere. Anyways, I was gonna haul it up to north Tuscaloosa/walker county where the dirt is rock hard and just been clearcut and burned. If I dumped a few yards on an acre or two and ran a disc to turn it under, would it be worth the time?

A dumptruck load on two acres would do little good. Just a little value in organic matter. On the other hand, if you put it under the ground specifically where you were going to have a row of something, it would help alot. If you dig a furrow and shovel the manure in it, then roll the dirt back over on it making a mound, you can plant in that and stuff will really grow. There was an old man around here who used to grow watermelons like that every every year. He cleaned out stables in the winter. In the spring, when he ran out of manure, thats where he quit planting. He was renowned around here for his watermelons.

I used horse manure in my garden. You need to pile it up and let the weed seeds burn up unless you want a little bit of everything coming up.

If the hay fields he got his hay from were sprayed with Grazon, don't try planting any broadleaf plots on it. Clover, rape, peas, etc... You'd need 2-5 tons per acre to do much good. Any will help, but a lot will be better.

Correct me if I’m wrong but horse manure doesn’t let weed or plants seed grow like chicken littler or cow manure.. in my experience i haven’t had a problem..
like others said would take a lot for couple acres

There aren't weed seeds in chicken litter if that's what you're saying. Put some in a container of sterile potting soil and keep it watered. Nothing will grow.

Horse manure will cause more weeds just like anything else that raises the fertility and water holding capacity of the soil you amend it with.

I use chicken litter in my compost pile over winter, put it out before tiling for garden.

It needs to compost and build heat to kill any seeds. Then put it on a garden

Growing up in the mid/late 70's early 80's in Arkansas - I worked at a couple of thoroughbred racing farms/stables basically as a stall cleaner, walker, and whatever other dirty jobs they had (this is where I learned to HATE horses). There was a farmer down the road that would come every week and we'd load the pile of straw, manure, and whatever other organic material onto his dump bed. He'd build these huge compost piles and then disc/till them into his garden (probably around 3-4 acres) in the Spring. Mr. Wright always had the most productive and prettiest garden you've ever seen. Even though peanuts weren't widely grown there - everyone in the area would go to Mr/Mrs Wrights and sit in the living room while he roasted them in the fireplace.

Such simpler times when people looked out for and cared for their neighbors.
