We are finally getting some much needed rain here in north Mobile. Plants aren't going to know how to act.

I talked to a good friend of mine in Mobile county the other day and he was telling me how dry it was down there. He said he knew several folks that were feeding hay. It amazes me how there can be so much difference in the weather in our state of course it really shouldn’t because in 07-09 Marshall, part of Dekalb and part of Jackson counties were in the worst drought rating when the rest of the state got good rain 2 of those 3 years.

We’re in the other extreme here now. It’s so wet I can’t tiller my garden and can’t get a long enough dry spell to cut hay.

For real, I actually got to tiller mine Monday and it has rained the last 2 days straight. Got plenty as of now.

Mine has more Pigweed growing in it than it does garden plants. It's rained here 4 out of the last 5 days. When it quits it's gonna be a long dry summer.

I saw a very odd stat and mentioned it in another thread a few months ago.
In Mid March, Mobile was about 9-10 inches below normal.
3.5 hours north and Birmingham had already reached the yearly total........crazy

allhawk, yes it's crazy. I haven't seen any totals that are anywhere close to the yearly average, but by the end of March we supposedly had 6 months worth. A couple weeks ago we were below normal for rain for just the month of May, but I'm sure we're ahead now.

Well we are drowning in north Bama. Should have planted rice.

The YTD rainfall is totally irrelevant. When you're growing crops you need regular rainfall. Whether it's above or below average is completely useless.

No schit, Sherlock. It was a simple statement that is was amazing at the difference a few hundreds miles made in rainfall this year.

Calm down Karen, I wasn't replying to any specific post. Just saying, averages mean nothing to a farmer.
