Headstones and footstones would be my wild arse guess. Maybe not, I haven’t seen Grant and I’m definitely no expert on the War of Northern Aggression

Tall stones mark the graves of soldiers whose identity is known. Short stones mark graves of unknown/unidentifiable soldiers. I read or was told this years ago and have never researched it.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

From the Shiloh National Cemetery info
In 1866, the War Department established a cemetery on the battlefield of Shiloh, in southwestern Tennessee. In order to bury the dead not only from the April 6-7, 1862, battle of Shiloh but also from all the operations along the Tennessee River, workers began building the “Pittsburg Landing National Cemetery.” Changed to “Shiloh National Cemetery” in 1889, the cemetery holds 3,584 Civil War dead, 2,359 of them unknown. In the fall of 1866, workers disinterred the dead from 156 locations on the battlefield, and 565 different locations along the Tennessee River. Headboards of wood first marked each grave, but were replaced in 1876 and 1877 by granite stones. Tall stones marked the known dead and square, short stones denoted unknown soldiers.

It’s closed right now according to the website. I think you just helped me make up my mind to go in the winter.

The first time that I drove thru Shiloh was a dreary/misty/semi-foggy November day and a feeling came over me that I had only felt once before. I had the same feeling when visiting the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. The only way that I can describe it is a feeling of death, physically in the air all around me. It's absolutely a physical thing and it takes a few hours for me to get beyond it. I'll never forget it.

Been to shiloh many times. Only live 30 minutes away. Everytime any out of town family come to visit i take Them To shiloh. Its such a eerie place. The feeling i get never changes no matter how many times i go. Had ancestors fight there. Heard tales of my ancestors hearing the cannons booming from waterloo. Grant would have got his ass beat there if backups hadn t showed up when they did. I recommend anyone visit shiloh especially if you got kids . Takes at least half a day. Have to watch the movie before you tour the battlefield. Huge place.

I watched about 15 minutes of that show and quickly realized it was produced by the revisionists. They made Grant out to be some sort of morally superior champion of human rights. I wanted to puke. Nothing in that show is truthful.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Shiloh is a very eery place to me. I felt the dead all around me.
The only individual graves would be for union soldiers, they stacked the confederate dead in mass graves.

So much history is being re-written, erased. So sad to see.
I have not been to Gettysburg yet, But, its on the short list.
Fort Donaldson, Chickamauga, Franklin are close by and make a good motorcycle trip.

This and this I have felt the same feeling at that battlefield on several visits. I honestly think it is spirits there that are not at rest. It is especially powerful over by Bloody Pond.

Shiloh, Vicksburg, & Petersburg are the last ones I need to visit. Been to Chattanooga, Chickamauga, Bull Run, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, Fredericksburg, Spottsylvania, and Gettysburg. Gettysburg was impressive. Definite must see.

Very key battle. Over 23,000 combined casualties. Gen Johnson getting killed swung the momentum of the battle. We almost had them pushed into the river. I lost 2 great uncles there. One is in a mass grave and another wounded died in MS when pulling back I have their ambrotype pictures. Hugh Mercer Andress and George Andress.
