So my almost 10 yr old golden retriever started having some problems getting around just yesterday. Wife took her to the vet and she has severe arthritis. Put her on galliprant and a joint supplement. The galliprant has some nasty looking side effects and is expensive. Just wondering if anyone has a dog on it?

My mother did for her old dog and a year later we buried the dog. I would advise against it.

I’m thinking we may give her some and then just stick to the joint supplements

I fixed my lab with Turmeric. The stuff from the vet did nothing for her.

If she needs to stay on any medication long term run blood work every 3-6 months to track liver and kidney function.

It was kind of strange. She has been hiking and walking more than usual due to coronavirus orders(for the family not her). I got back in town yesterday and she was hobbling all of a sudden. I think I’m just gonna give her tha arthritis meds until they run out and then stick with the joint supplement(which has turmeric in it)

CBD oil is supposed to help. Like mentioned earlier turmeric has anti inflammatory properties

Started giving my blue heeler baby aspirin when he was around 10yrs old. Had arthritis and had been run over a few times while biting the tires on trailers so he could hardly get around. Dang if he didn’t start running around like a pup again. I would definitely talk with a vet before I would try the baby aspirin, but that was our experience using it. It gave the ol farm dog 2-3 more years or running around before cancer got him.

My 4 year old German Shephard is already showing signs of hip problems. I'm gonna try the baby aspirin when it gets worse.

I would try CBD oil as mentioned above. I've done the prescribed meds before for my old Huskies that had arthritis and we did not see any benefits from it, and our wallets were definitely lighter.

If my current dogs get arthritis, I'll be doing CBD oil supplements.
