There are geese around some of the places I hunt nearly year round. Anyone use one to locate with success? Or is just annoying and won't draw many gobbles? Looking for locator ideas outside the norm of owl/crow and goose seemed the most obvious.

I haven’t had to consider a locator call this year. Between the geese and the wood ducks and the owls and the donkey and the cows it’s been crazy

I always keep a goose call in my vest. Like Atoler said, works pretty well later in the day. I keep it as a last ditch effort kind of deal.

I’ve heard em gobble at a lot of stuff this year, including gunfire on 2 separate occasions. Geese have flown over a couple mornings. I’ve yet to hear one gobble at a goose.
Not saying they won’t. I just haven’t heard em do it early mornings this year.

I carry one in my vest. Usually only break it out as my secret weapon when I know a bird is there and he won’t gobble to any other locator or call. We have so many owls that the turkeys rarely gobble to them on our place.

I carry crow and hawk calls but have not used them this year but have heard gobbles from both, especially the hawk.

one of the places I hunt, they just about won't gobble to a crow or owl.....but let a group of Canada's fly over and it'll set 'em off. Quackhead Calls (cheap version of RNT) makes a "Goozilla" call that is solid for a $25(ish) call. I've also heard people mention the peacock calls, along with woodpeckers, but haven't tried either of them yet.

any loud, sudden burst of noise *can* shock gobble a bird ... one morning i was setup close to our line, with a house nearby; dude walked out of his house & threw a heavy set of chains into the bed of his pickup & a bird sounded off ... another year, i’d crow like a rooster first thing every AM; a neighbor had a rooster & gobbler in a pen in his backyard, and the rooster would make his gobbler gobble — which in turn made the wild ones start gobbling

I have located several here in Louisiana with a speck call. I tried it once on my place in Bama and had one gobble.

I can also confirm that a dirtneck that got his ratted out jeep stuck b/c he was riding somewhere he shouldn't have been, and was repeatedly gunning the gas trying to unstick himself, will also make one gobble. In fact, that may be the most I've ever heard any bird gobble.

We've got a gravel quarry within a mile or so from one of our properties. When they first opened it up the turkeys would lose their minds when they dumped the first bucket of rock into a truck in the mornings. I think they've gotten used to it now though because I don't hear much gobbling there anymore.

When I still lived in Jacksonville, on the mountain, I had gotten home from work and decided to partake in few adult beverages. Back then I recycled my cans. Well, I had a few and went outside to put them in the trash can on the porch. The lid was stuck so I had to jerk it pretty hard to get if off and when it did it shook those cans pretty loud. Low and behold, the beer can locator call was born. One gobbled 200 yards from the house. Just to make sure, I shook the trash can again, and sure nuff, he gobbled again. I ran in got my camo on and that longboard was dead in 30 minutes.

the funniest thing i saw one gobble at was a helicopter flying over a pasture in Dale Co ... Ft Rucker was running helicopters like crazy a few years back, and right on cue around 7am, here they'd come - and the gobs hate it LOL

Year before last, I walked my azz off all morning and couldn’t buy a gobble. About 11am one of those Rucker helicopters came over low and one hammered off in a bottom. Had him dead a short while later.

I love and hate those birds simultaneously. One morning last year I'd put in about 4 miles with zero luck. I'd given up and was walking back to my truck. I was 100yds from the truck, which was in plain view, when a big gobbler walked across the road about 20yds from the truck, like it wasn't even there. I would've killed him too, if it hadn't been for another hunter driving down the road a few minutes later sending the bird flying off into the next county.
