I have always wanted to mount a scope on my K98 Mauser but did not want to permanently alter a pretty pristine WW2 rifle by having it drill and tapped. Many of these K98's were defaced after the war but this one still has all of it's original factory markings unaltered. Even the little swastikas have been left intact. There has always been scope mounts that could be mounted by removing the rear sight and attaching them in it's place but they have always been for a scout scope (long eye relief) type set up. I have just always disliked scout style scopes. Dislike their use and how they look.

So I came across this mount by a outfit called Badace Tactical. It also mounts by removing the rifles original rear sight and attaching it in the same place. But it has an extention that protrudes back far enough to allow you to use a regular scope. It attaches in two places and so far seems rock solid. Took less than 5 minutes to install and I could restore the rifle to original form just as quickly. Here is how it looks on my K98 and under that a video showing how it goes on.

I've got a 1944 Oberndorf mauser that was a bring back and sporterized to 270. No scope, just a Lyman 58 rear sight. Always wanted to put a scope in it, but it's gonna take more to do that than the gun is worth. Would love to have an original in good condition, but not bad enough to spend the money on one.

There is a lot of history behind those guns. Most made by slave labor. I had a matching # Oberndorf I sold many years ago. I still regret it. Even the screws have the last 2 #s of the serial #

Pretty cool...traded of my 98k couple years ago also had a Yugo m48, Yugo 24/47 all traded off recently.still have a turkish Mauser turned into a 7x57 custom and a vz-24 turned into 338-06 custom. Will regret trading off the unmolested ones I'm sure

That's a good option. I always hate drilling and tapping, scalloping the bolt handles and replacing the safety just to mount a scope on those old original guns. But ultimately, I do what I'm paid to do.
I have one that is original, and it will remain that way as long as I have anything to say about it

Poor K98 should have done a repro scope and mount

Did you miss the part where I said I did not want to make any permanent alterations to the rifle? This can go on and off in under 5 minutes.
