Knocked #2 down yesterday morning and it was probably one of the coolest hunts that I've had in a while. Checked cameras Saturday and had pictures of two gobblers strutting in one of my clover patches all week so I decided to go after them Sunday morning knowing that it was going to be overcast and rainy and that they'd likely be heading to the field. I had planned on not hearing a peep and just deer hunting them but that turned out to not be the case. They gobbled for the first time at around 6:45 and they were probably a half mile over on the neighbors place. I waited until I thought they had flown down and gave them a call just to let them know I was there and they responded. Over the next two hours they proceeded to slowly make their way to the clover plot, with both birds gobbling together every minute or so. At around 8:15 they gobbled and were in the hardwood bottom directly behind the clover plot and I could hear them spitting and drumming down in there so I assumed they had hens with them. Finally at about 8:50 they gobbled and were just over the crest of the rise from me in my clover plot. With some soft clucks and purrs and a little scratching in the leaves I coaxed them away from their hens and across the field to 25yds. I rolled the lead bird and immediately started doing a fighting purr on my mouth call and the other bird commenced to whooping up on his downed buddy. He stuck around for a few minutes before making his way back down into the hardwoods where he continued to gobble until I had walked out of earshot. I really wish I'd had another shooter with me to get him. My dad was supposed to go with me but decided not to because it was supposed to rain. We'll get him another day though.

Video of the straggler hanging around and gobbling. Sound is kind of funny on PC for some reason so you may have to crank it way up.

Congrats!
I could have used TWO buddies on Saturday when I had a trio of 2 year olds come right to where I wanted them.

You only carry one shell, you hang around and you get a ride in the truck too. Congrats on the bird.

I’d be lying if I said it didn’t cross my mind to be an outlaw and knock that second bird down. But the thought of getting to hunt him another day won out.
