What kind is this one? Saw him yesterday in the edge of a waterfall. He’s about 8” long.

Looks like a juvenile cottonmouth to me. Looks like it has a “brow” and a dark eye band.

It doesn't look like he has the triangle head of a young water moccasin, but his body markings are close enough though so that I would keep my distance. With the benefit of not having to get close I would agree that it looks to be the Midland type that is pictured. If I was in the water with him it would most definitely be a water moccasin.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I’ve plugged this before a dozen times but for you FB’ers, the FB group “Snake Identification” is a tremendous resource.

Obviously, it was a snakey kind of day. I saw a copperhead while bush hogging, got in woods before I could run over it, on the other end of the field, my buddy was about to cut down a tree in front of a shooting house and a small timber rattler was about 2 feet up the tree. That one didn't get away. Never seen a rattle snake anywhere but on the ground

Midland water snake. For a bunch of outdoorsmen, you guys seriously need to learn a little snake identification...that looks nothing like a moccasin or any other dangerous snake!

Granted, there are a ton of NON-VENOMOUS snakes (no 'poisonous' snakes in Alabama!!!), so it's easier to just learn what the venomous ones look like.
