I know some of y'all are kayak or canoe guys.

What do y'all think of the prices of the new Old Town tricked-out models with trolling motor - more than $4,000 - and some of the Hobie fishing-specific models that are $2,500 or more?

I love the pedal propulsion systems. Lot of upside, speed, control. Some guys I know had them last spring at the Niagara River in New York, which has a LOT of continuous current due to the falls. Even though the falls are about 15+ miles upstream the current is ripping, yet those guys could move around easily in their pedal-powered kayaks.

But, those prices, not to mention a trailer or hauling system and your other gear. They're designed for serious fishing guys and not a 3-hour jaunt down the crick or pond.

Would love to have one, though. They're pretty cool.

I'd love to have one of those instead of a $1200 check.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I think a peddle Perception is around $1500. A Peddle Jackson is around $2700. I got a peddle yak because I think it would be hell to fish and have to control a paddle since we only have two hands. DIY rigging is fun and requires thought before hand. Quite a few guys here have them Soalaturkeys, DOA, KBUSH, marksoutdoors just to name a few.
Wiley, there are some pretty good deals on Facebook Market place. Thats where I got mine.

The DIY rigging definitely can be fun. Lot of options from storage to depthfinders

Those are pretty sweet rigs....99.9% of my kayaking these days is an hour or two float in local lakes or creeks...most of the time with a toddler in my lap...so a bare bones $300 yak suits my needs for now. Maybe I’ll upgrade, one day. 🙂

Larry's kayak is a pedal with a prop, rather than fins...if I had a pedal kayak, that's what I'd want, for the instant reverse capability.

Brooklyn Kayak Company makes some good looking pedal boats that are a lot less expensive than some others. Never fished from a BKC, but I keep reading good things about them.

Man... I have older friends that have pedal Hobie's, and they look nice. BUT, they are in much different stages of life than me (with 2 younger kids). So, for now, I'm content with some very nice used paddlers. Its aggrevating at times maneuvering in flowing river water, or chasing feeding frenzies past the breakers, but its do-able, and I can't justify 2K to minimize that mild problem.

Man, you can find a decent used aluminum bass boat for the price of them Cadillac ‘yaks.
I always think I want one until I see some poor bastard paddling one a long way from shore.
My brother was real impressed with the guy we saw in Gurley yesterday after Turkey hunting.
He was riding a bicycle towing a yak. 100 percent human power, my bro said.

I wish I could afford a pedal yak just for the convenience of not having to work a paddle. But I've been fishing out of an old town predator for about 5 years now and I love it. They make a great kayak. It's a little on the heavy side but I can stand up and fish in some pretty rough surf and have on many occasions stood up going down the coosa river shooting fish in the smaller rapids.

$4000 can buy a LOT of boat, particularly aluminum. Heck, even $2500 can get you in a decent 14' or 16' jon boat with a 25(ish) horse outboard and decent trolling motor....

$2,500 will get you more than a john boat with a 25 HP.
