I'm not really into watching sports other than college football, so I don't keep up with any of it.
How in the world is MLB gonna pay the players salaries if they aren't playing games? Say football doesn't get played either. How will the NFL pay players? How will colleges pay the huge salaries for the coaches?
Will Saban and Gus have to go to the Dothan area and wash cars with those strippers?
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I basically only watch college football as well.
I have realized during this whole thing that I really don't miss commercialized/professional sports at all.
I wonder how many other people will realize the same thing.
It is interesting in our society how professional athletes and actors are paid so highly to perform a service that we really don't need, where as plumbers, electricians, grocers, truck drivers, teachers, etc... sometimes are barely paid a living wage.
Maybe the masses of people will wake up one day, but I'm not holding out hope.

I just find it interesting and somewhat ironic. People pay whatever they feel is necessary to a service and people charge whatever the market will bear.

I think what Phil's saying is that if Truckers and Grocers started getting paid higher the supply of those workers would increase dramatically because its a learned skill that frankly isn't anything but effort on anyone's part. Running a 4.40/ 40 yard dash can't be done with just effort alone, God's got to give you something special to be able to do that.

I need water and electricity. I don't want to go back to slop jars and bathing in a rain barrel, so it's nice to have sewer systems, commodes, running water and such.
I don't need the NFL, or Auburn and Alabama, or Formula 1 or any sports. They're enjoyable now and then. I'll miss watching The Masters in two weeks. But it won't be depressing or demoralizing or cause me to weep that it's not happening.
Any person who is so weepy-upset-distressed or actually depressed that a sporting event isn't happening needs some mental help. Sports are fun but they're not life.
Perhaps this all will be a big reset on priorities and values.
It won't change things on salaries, wages and benefits, though. Owners are still going to be owners, squeezing every nickel and paying someone who will work for whatever's offered. When a nurse or police officer says, "We survived that covid crap and deserve more money," their bosses will agree but pay the same.

Best thing about this mess is I’m seeing a lot more outdoor family activities going on in our neighborhood (fishing, kayaking, bike riding, walking, yard work, etc....)

How in the world is MLB gonna pay the players salaries if they aren't playing games? ... How will the NFL pay players? IMO, those folks shouldn't get paid if they aren't working. Same as the average Joe who is suffering from being stuck at home. The difference is those athletes have a huge bankroll to work off of while average Joe is probably living check to check.

Withholding 25% of the NBA players pay when none of them are practicing, playing and there's no games, no fans and no television revenue is a joke. If the owners can afford to do that then that should tell everyone and all the "fans" that the whole industry is way over priced for what it is. There is no other industry in America that could completely shut down for a year and still pay all it's employees 75% of their pay.

I think they have several hundred billion in the bank. I think they could operate for 2 years without selling a single iPhone. Good business to be in!
