Called in a hen and a Jake with about 3in beard. Didn't hear any gobblers, but that he was really cutting up. Once I got back to camp, I wished I would have shot the Jake wink

If he acts like a big turkey, he should die like a big turkey. Turkeys are born with only one purpose, to be shot in the face.

I'm thinking about it this year. I've never killed a jake, but white meat is getting hard to find around here.

Exactly...same people who shoot em are the same ones who complain about lack of gobblers...

Are both toms and jakes considered gobblers? How do I tell a Jake from a Tom?

I had a hen and jake bust me yesterday morning while the bigger bird was just under the hill. Those two no counts ruined that hunt. They got up on my side of the hill where I had been yelping early, when they didn't see anything, the spooked and moved off. They took my bigger "Tom" with them. The hen practically landed in my lap. I saw her glide out of the tree and land. I did enjoy the hunt, I had that hen and jake close, plus two other hens yelping and cackling. After they left, I tried to get in front of them, but I was never able to make connection.

If I had a dollar for every unhelpful comment you replied in response to my posts I’d have more money. You mind clarifying between a Jake and whatever you call a old/mature turkey or you gonna just continue being an smart Alec. I talked to a guy today that said Jakes fan feathers aren’t all in line so they’ll have 2-4 feathers sticking out further. I’m about to just google it.

That’s correct. Not a full fan. Shorter beard(s). Shorter spurs. Not as full of a gobble usually

Jakes beards are usually short and stubby, just a few inches. Their fans, when fully displayed, are longer in the middle than on the sides. Also spurs are short and stubby if they have any visible ones at all. Some Jake's can gobble like a mature bird but you can often tell the gobbles apart, like they havent quite got the hang of it yet.

Here is a video I took a while back of some jakes. Can see the fan, beard, and gobble.
