Ive got about a 50ft strip around one side of my food plot, will probably amount to about an acre total. Alot of rocks so I dont want to break it up. Already tore up a good turning plow on it once. So im gona throw and mow it with something just to try out the throw and mow thing. Not gona spend a fortune on it. Fixin to plant about 4acres of IC peas right beside it. It is the perimeter of the field on the side where the deer come out 90% of the time. Good layer of vegetation on it right now. I disked the peapatch up today, left the perimeter alone.

Buckwheat will help build soil and make a low height perimeter, otherwise natural vegetation isn't a terrible thing.

Buckwheat is a good choice. Deer eat it and it's a good honeybee plant if you're in to that sort of thing

A few years ago, I planted 2 acres of buckwheat on a wide power line on property I leased. One of the prettiest fields I've ever planted. You could hear the honey bees before you even got close enough to see the field
