Just finished up building a new hog trap that is about twice the size of my original one built several years ago. I am hopeful that I will be able to capture more these damn critters during the off season as a result of having two traps now. Have caught 15 in my smaller trap so far in the past two weeks but with the blood in there now they are shying away from it. I know I am getting to old for this type of manual labor though.

Looks good. Post up some pictures when you get it full of pork.

Looks good!
A lot of work goes into putting those up.

Looks like a full size pig could jump over the fence though.
Is that 48"?

God Bless,

I need to build one myself. Explain the door, how it works and how you made it please.

I have had a smaller one the same height and caught hogs that weighed nearly 300 lbs and they never got out. The ones that escape are the little piglets that can fit through the 4”x4” holes.

It is 2x4 cut 7’ with 2x2 cut 7’ screwed on to one side of the 2x4s to create a channel for the 32” plywood door. Then run 3-2x4s cut 4’ across at the top and bottom and then one about 4’ from bottom. The top cross brace has a small pulley attached and there is a latch screwed onto to the plywood that a parachute cord is attached. The cord is then attached to piece of hardy wood (cedar or hickory) and creates a trigger when placed against two pieces of rebar driven into the ground. When hogs root in pop the stick loose the door is dropped like a guillotine. I will take some pics and post when I go Back to set the trap. I’m haven’t set it yet giving the hogs a chance to get used to going in first.

Man that’s cool. Yeah I gotta make one for sure. First year I’ve had any stick around through gun season. I gotta start trapping some.

Globe here are the pics of the trigger system and the guillotine trap door. Hope this helps if you decide to build one similar. I designed this one so when the trigger is tripped and the door drops, the rope and the piece of wood tied to the end of it will pull up to the 2x4 connected to the two tpost and will not get in the mud.

I like it, I have been looking at building a trap just like this but have been trying to figure out how to build my own cellular door so I can trip it when I know I’m going to be going to the camp. Usually I’m only up 2-3 days at a time so didn’t think that’s enough time for a manual trip door like this.

What are the two small live traps for?

Yes the two small traps are for the coons. Along with 5 thumb traps that are around the perimeter.

This is the one I built. I like muzzie's catch to hold the door open when not set.
