Spinoff to number of hunts thread. If you:
-Live within an 1 or 2 hour of your camp ( call this easy driving distance for this survey)
- have a house , trailer or camper to stay in
-are married, but don't have children at home ( rarely stayed overnight until kids were HS age, so from 1995 until 2013)

How many nights did you stay away from home? Stay defined as one night.

This is my situation, and a weird year with weather, but I "stayed" at camp 9 times.

Just curious. Not sure if this is a lot or not compared to others.I would have liked to have stayed more.

As the crow flies about 2 miles but bout 7 to actually drive.
Have a cabin but no power but have a propain generator and lights.
Spent about 10-12 nights a season. Don't come home for days sometimes.
Quite. Only lights to be seen at night are stars.

405 miles to the camp. I’ve stayed as many as 21 days straight. That’s a long time away from home

It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.

Not married. No kids. Camp is 58 miles from the house. Stayed 13 nights at camp this season. 1 night opening weekend of gun season and then every weekend in January except for the last. 2 of those where 4 day weekends.

We don't have a trailer or house though. We sleep in storage sheds. We spend most of our time outside by the fire.

Happily divorced since 1985
175 miles one way.
Cabin with all amenities
Grandkids when my son brings them(every other weekend)
2 or 3 nights to a week at a time
Quite rural but 5 to 15 minutes from required supplies
Had this lease for 21 years now and love it

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

My home is my camp now with the lease on my road! But before was a hr drive to old camp had a house trailer! I’d spend every weekend and one week day all season! Stayed a whole month once and that lead to my divorce

I’m 25 minutes from our land. We have a 100’ metal building and have been in the slow process of building an apartment in it. We have a few campers and single wide on the property, but I ain’t sleeping in those things until I give them a little TLC. I’ve never stayed the night up there and may or may not after we finish the living quarters in the building.

I wish my wife would agree to build a house up there, 2 miles of bluff line. Gorgeous views. It’s to far out in the “boondocks” for her liking though. Maybe one day.

I’m married with two kids and I stayed at the camp a lot. I would get my wife and kids to come up and hunt with me some but sometimes I’d stay for three or four days if the weather was good but for the most part I stay two days then come home. This was mainly early season and all of January to February. Didn’t hunt much in December

Grown son and Daughter. Camp is 2-1/2 hours away. Son goes to camp with me most of the time and we have some local land to hunt also. Daughter doesn't hunt at all. I have another daughter that is 16. She goes with me sometimes but doesn't hunt these days. She just likes to hang out at camp. She has never squeezed the trigger on a deer but has sat by my side as I did. I probably spent 16-20 nights in camp this last year.

105 miles door to door. I have an old construction trailer we remodeled. I spend 2 or 3 nights a week there during hunting season and maybe 1 day a week the rest of the year There is always something that needs doing.

I have a grown and married son who is also a member. We stayed at our trailer at least 15 times. Only have a 25 minute drive. Wife stayed a few times. Always an enjoyable time at the camp. Power water and dish network. Not really roughing it.

165 miles door to door. I have to drive I-65 between Birmingham and Montgomery to get there, so travel time can be as quick as 2.5 hours or as long as 5. I have a wife and elementary age kids, so about 8 days in camp during hunting season is about all I can manage. I enjoy tractor work, planting and other work related things down there, so I probably spend another 8 nights down there outside of hunting season.

Three hours one way, married with kids in college, built a camp that's as nice as my home a couple years ago, have 25 employees that allow me to get away when I want. Around a hundred days a year at camp for me.

5 minutes from my new house to the club house, so no stays there. 1 hour to our mountain land, camped about 7 nights in late Nov-early Dec. Married, kids grown, oldest son is my hunting partner. I basically have the same setup that Matt has. I can walk out of my yard onto the club. Deer and turkeys in the yard every day.

I either don’t have a camp or live at my camp. I dunno. It sounds awful cool, having a camp, but some of y’all doing a lot of driving.

We finally have a huntable deer population locally, so I hunt close to home a lot. I did manage to drag the camper to public land and spent around 10 nights broken into a few trips. It is enjoyable if you have someone with you on the trip but a true camp setting is the one thing that I do miss from a hunting cclub. I may join another one day just so my son can experience it.

Camping sounds fun too. I’ve never owned a camper.

Married. 4 year old daughter

Hunting property 15 miles one way, and another place I hunt10 miles the other.

Place to stay at one. Maybe 8-10 nights. Only 2 full weekends (Friday and Saturday).

Close enough to run in town and have lunch with them midday helps

The “camping” part of hunting camp is what I enjoy the most. One of the older guys we hunt with I think likes to cook more than he does hunt he’ll climb down around 8:30-9am every morning and cook up one heck of a breakfast. It’s nice getting back to camp at 10 to have a hot cup of coffe and a hot breakfast waiting on you. He also loves showing off his skills on the grill as well. All we have to cook with at camp is 2 charcoal grills. One small propane Webber and 2 propane burners/stoves. But man do we eat good down there.

We had a place in Virginia for years and years. My uncle liked to cook like that.
We called him “the camp bitch.” Hell, he took to calling himself that.

Have several buddies who would prefer to cook than hunt.

Hell, have several who prefer to work on tractor than hunt.

Best to keep both around

Seems like the evolution from hard core hunter to camp cook is a common theme. Happened in ours as well. We also have some guys that came to 3 or 4 workdays and never sat in a stand this year.

Married with one daughter at college and another one will start this fall.
I live on 45 acres and hunt there on Sundays and weekends when I'm on call, At camp in a trailer probably every Friday night when not on call. Hunt some extra vacation days also. It's an 1 1/2 drive.
Since we will be empty nesters the wife might go some since she doesn't want to stay at the house by herself.

Make no mistake though. Our camp cook is a big buck killer when he wants to be. He’s got an impressive trophy room. But kind of like what you are saying I think. He’s at the point where he just enjoys camp and would rather see someone else get a deer

Well said. The camp cook is my dad now.... Killed more deer and better deer over the years than most members in our club(s). But now for him it is about relaxing, cooking and enjoying stories of the day as much as anything. That said, year in year out, he kills one of the nicest deer taken each year.

Married with 2 kids 8 and 10.
One property is a mile up the road, the other is about 10 miles. I have a small cabin at the farthest location. Power, water, toilet and a roof over my head. Spent about 4 weekends at the cabin but only sat in a stand 5 times.

Camp is 15 mi away with a barndo. Married with a 2 year old at home. I didn't stay a single night because I didn't need to. Will be a different story during turkey season.

How many nights did you stay away from home? Stay defined as one night.

This is my situation, and a weird year with weather, but I "stayed" at camp 9 times.

Just curious. Not sure if this is a lot or not compared to others.I would have liked to have stayed more.

I have a 100mi drive. Wife and no kids at home. Wife occasionally goes to camp with me because I have a 3br/2ba singlewide with full kitchen including refrigerator/freezer, central heat and A/C and satellite TV. When I go, I'm staying 2 nights minimum barring something unforeseen. I'd guess I stayed 20 nights or more.

Married with 2 grown kids. Went to the camp every weekend from September first until last weekend. Kids came in most weekends and the wife even came for a couple.

Camphose is a misnomer. It has full kitchen, laundry, hot water, central ac, dish network. There isnt much I have at home that I dont have at the camp.

Camp is about an hour away....

280- I had about as many work weekends as I did hunting weekends- they start in Turkey season for me and run thru November.... I could add 6 to my total.

I have a 24 mile drive. Spent 9 seasons with a camp. It had a shower, kitchen, cable tv. I miss it at times but it sure is nice to not need to pack food and clothes and plan the weekend out. So nice to just wake up and go, and come home at 2pm if I don’t feel like hunting. If I had to join a club more than an hour away I don’t think I could do it.
