I cant see how anything pulled out of a 550 unless it was a toe catch and that could happen with offset jaws Maybe go with 4 coils if youre using the 2 coil. They'll fire faster and give you more consistent full pad catches
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

MB 550 isn't big enough for beaver unless you're making an absolute perfect front foot catch every time. Offset jaws on an already undersized trap are a definite no.
If you want to catch and hold beaver buy some beaver traps.

I use a Sleepy Creek 4.5 double long spring with a drowner for beaver. The #4.5 has a 7 1/2" jaw spread, substantially wider that a 550 at 4 3/4". That's a fine trap! I've got a couple that I welded 4"x 4" pan covers on and they are catching machines. Easy to bed rock solid with those springs but man they're tough to set!

I have to stand on the springs.
