Seems like a lot of newer vehicles are being produced with CVT's. Any experiences good or bad with them ? I guess it's not much different than some of the 8,9 or whatever speed autos they're also pushing.

Looking for a small to midsize SUV or Crossover. Don't need 3rd row, etc.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

We bought a used 2017 Jeep cherokee with one. It started feeling a little less than sold and it got traded in. It might be how they feel but I didn’t want to find out and it was underpowered and too small.

my wife has a maxima with a cvt transmission. At 117,000 miles it still performs as well as it did when new.

I see lots of stories of failing Nissan cvt (mostly in the Rogue), that aren't repairable only replaceable. supposedly Nissan "fixed" theirs in '17, so if looking at Nissan cvt vehicles, suggest '17 or newer.

I drove an Altima with a cvt. At 250k miles it was still going strong. Really liked that car. YMMV.

There are a lot of them with really high failure rates. Unfortunately they are in so many vehicles now they are hard to avoid. Hopefully the newer models have them fixed because the 2011-2014ish range was a disaster in pretty much every vehicle we have run across.

x2. The GF wants a new car. Just about all Nissans come with the CVT. See too many complaints online about them. Im sending her a different route. Maybe Toyota or honda this time.

My son has an Altima with one. 140k miles and runs like a champ. It does have a bit of a whine to it, but has no issues. I think that is the sound those CVT's make.

I don't like CVTs and I don't trust them.

Toyota has done well with them in the Rav4. Nissan has had a nightmare with them according to things I've read as well as hearing it straight from a Nissan Master Technician.

Had 2017 Nissan Altima with CVT all highway miles not road hard that failed. Lost about 4k on it! Did not want to buy another Nissan, so I traded it and got nothing from Nissan. There is a settlement just not anything for people that sold the Nissan and didn't buy another. Why fix a piece of junk to have it fail again? Would be nice to receive a check for the 4k it would have cost me to pay for a new transmission or the 4k I loss in value. Would have expected more from Nissan.

I think they've gotten them figured out now. Like anything, early models tend to have issues. I had a little Nissan Versa with the CVT as a gas saver daily driver and it did fine. It felt like a cheap car because it was, but the CVT never gave me any problems
