I haven’t had one in months but I’m going through it tonight. These things are the worst feeling in the world. Trying to not go to the ER. Who else has these regularly and what’s your trick for coming out of it besides pooping (vagal response)?

Blowing through a coffee straw and ice water to face are a couple we used back in my ER days, mostly used these while someone was getting either the adenosine or attaching the defibrillator to light ‘em up.

Finally deported myself from the peoples republik of Kaliforkistan.

Basically all 4 chambers of your heart start freaking out. My heart rate will elevate to 190-210bpm and hold there for 30 minutes to 3 hours. You are positive you’re dying because you’re body thinks it’s dying so you get an overwhelming sense of dread on top of all this. It’s pretty miserable and don’t wish it on anyone

I have a certain type of SVT. It sucks. I’ve blacked out in Gander mountain and a few other places before. I started out taking atenolol, but it was horrible to me. It made me gain weight, caused me to be tired all the time, tons of side effects. Next they put me on bystolic. It did not have a generic form. Bystolic was $300 a month I believe and my insurance would not cover it. That went on for a while until it’s side effects started getting worse. So I opted to get seen to have an ablation done. I got approved for it but I would’ve had to pay my yearly deductible before they would do it, which was 3500. So I said nope. Now I’m not on any medication, just living with it. Mine seems to be worse at night. My biggest piece of advice would be that when it starts, take a very deep breathe in and flex your chest as hard as you can while holding your breathe. This works to stop it with me around 85% of the time. It seems like stress and being tired makes mine worse. My heart rate will get to 200 BPM and my heart will beat so hard that my shoulders shake like Ray Charles going through withdrawals. And when it comes on, it does it over and over for hours with no relief.

Good luck, I know it sucks.

I have had it for several years now. I thought at first it was some kind of panic attack until i finally saw a cardiologist. They put me on the same medicine most of you use, but I don't like to take medicine and every so often I would still have them. I began to realize that sugar and caffeine triggered the attacks so I have cut back on the sugar and I do not drink anything with caffeine anymore. It has helped, but there are still random episodes that are mostly stress related. What I have learned is that I can lay on my back and elevate my feet and control my breathing to get it to stop. Sometimes I will have to tighten up like I'm pushing one out, but that is on rare occasions.

This sounds a lot like mine.... they’ve monitored me 7 times to see where to do the ablation and can’t find the bad nerve. Mine also always happen at night and as coach buck said are worse on days I have sugar or caffeine. Heck I even quit dipping.

That's even below my normal resting heart rate. I guess I was born with tachycardia.
I'm usually running 90-100 bpm without any effort.

I get a little light headed and my neck and shoulders tense up and hurt a little. When it goes away it is like someone hits a bass drum and a relief in my shoulder and neck area, although they seem to be a little sore the next day. Not a fun experience.

Keep after it. I had every test imaginable done but they FINALLY caught it. Now if I can ever afford it I’ll have it done.

Alcohol and dehydration will start it up also.

Pretty sure dehydration is what started it last night. It’s so weird you mentioned that. Yesterday I forgot my water for work. I usually drink 4 bottles through the day and I didn’t have any. I never caught up. I only drink alcohol about once a month.

My daughter was delivered premature due to SVTs she was 2months preemie and her heart rate when she was born was 340bpm!!! it wasnt pumping it was quivering. She stayed in the NICu for 52 days they shocked her a couple times to get it back in normal rhythm. adenosine and digoxin were the meds she was on there and they swapped her to flecanide and now she is home and doing fine with 3 doses of flec a day. Scary stuff. But like someone said try and vagle yourself, sometimes that can shock the heart into rhythm. Even dunking your head into ice water or ice packs on your face can help. But holding your breath and straining can help.

It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

Holy crap!! Poor thing..., I’ve never even heard of 340bpm. Hope she’s healed. That’s terrible.

She's doing much better she was basically in full cardiac arrest and hydropic because she was in it in utero. They didn't even weigh her they popped 2 chest tubes in and put her on ventilator and put her in NICU. It was tough seeing her like that but she is wide open now and tougher than superman's knee cap.

Man I hate to have an episode. The cough is what I’ve always done to help. And you’re right, definitely think it’s over for sure. Especially when you can’t settle it down.

Vagal maneuvers cough swallow ice water if that fails Adenocard ivp or cardiovert. Might want to ask to be sedated before cardioversion tho.
