It seem that most everybody these days hunts from stands, whether that is a climber, shooting house, ground blind, or whatever. Does anybody get out and walk and really hunt for deer? It is one of my favorite ways to go about killing a deer, you really have to be paying close attention to detail and be ready to shoot quickly at any time.

Took a long walk on my lease just yesterday morning. It was drizzling, so the ground was quiet. Really enjoy slippin some days.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I enjoy it more myself..been a long time since I killed a deer from a stand gun or bow..minus the one I shot from my truck last year watching a big field

I very rarely gun hunt from a stand. Though I would say 85% of my bow hunting is out of a stand. And I seem to climb higher every year.

As I get older I bowhunt from a stand more because I can simply take it longer. It allows me to sit. Otherwise my feet hurt and I can't kneel very long anymore.

I hunt from a stand most of the time but I will also walk/hunt the 1 mile walk in or out. I killed a good buck 2 years ago by hunting my way out. Saw him cross the logging rd about 300 yards away but couldn’t get a shot. Dropped everything but my rifle and took off running down another road so I could hopefully catch him crossing a field. When I slipped into the field he was standing on the edge making a scrape. Was one of my more memorable hunts.

Best deer I've ever killed was on the ground walking around big woods, using a bleat every once in a while. Heard two deer jump up, stopped, took a knee, and got my gun ready. I had no idea what I had jumped up but out steps a giant 8 point at 120 yards crossing a logging road about to hit the bottom and be gone forever. My bleating and the fact I took a knee made him check up for 4 or 5 seconds. Once I steadied my crosshairs as best I could considering my breathing and adrenaline I let one fly. Hit him a few inches right of the shoulder where I was aiming and clipped his jugular, went down without nary a flinch. That hunt is one I'll talk about for a long time, no stands involved.

When you hunt the mountains in NA, every rock is an elevated stand. No way I’d haul a climber up these mountains I hunt. Use what nature gives you up here. Plus, much safer. Haven’t been in a stand but 1 time in the past 4-5 years.

My largest buck was from the ground. Slip a bit, sit or stand a bit. Hit the grunt call about 3 times and he came crashing down the hill looking for a fight. He stopped about 35 yards from me and I hammered him through the neck. DRT. 125 inch 10 point but was huge bodied, his rack actually looks smallish for his body. I have 1 bow kill from the ground, doe. Love to sneak when the ground is wet.

I killed my best FL deer this past Saturday while slipping around scouting an area I've never been.

I do it all the time especially in the mornings. I’m not very patient so if I’m not feeling where I’m sitting I’ll go slip around. I really like doing it on roads. I’ve had a lot of success doing it. I’ve done it in thick clear cuts to and slip up within a few yards of deer and they never bust me. I’ll do some soft grunts when I’m doing it and stand there for a little but then move again

Do it all the time. Can’t stand sitting in a shooting house or stand.

I love slipping quietly. but there are those times you cannot get to where they are quietly. A deer's first defense is to hid. If they are in the real thick stuff they will not get up until you knock them in the head. When approaching area like this I will just charge in there much like jump shooting rabbits. It can scare the crap out of you when they jump up feet from you. good stuff.

I only hunt climbers in bow season or occasionally on a clearcut so I can maximize what I can see(but then only if the wind is right). I’ll often hunt box stands on fields in the afternoons because I know the deer are coming to them and I likely won’t have to track and haul an animal out of the woods(and up hills in many places where I hunt) after dark.
The rest of the time I slip in to a likely spot and just lean against a tree or sit down where there is some cover. If the wind shifts to a unfavorable direction I quietly change accordingly. In the woods where I hunt you can’t see far at all most places once you are 8 feet off the ground so it does no good to get in a stand.

Hunting smaller properties you better not walk around too much. Go to your stand when winds right and stay put.

I hardly ever sit in a stand any more. I prefer walking, I may not kill as many deer but I just enjoy slipping through the woods and seeing different scenary. If I stop or sit in a place for a while and don't see anything I can always ease on over to the next hill or bottom. I think I use hunting as an excuse just to get out in the woods sometimes.

I do it all the time. That's why my dad and I have always been called the slippinlips by our family and close friends. I always carry a shooting stick with me. If they don't come to you, go to them. As long as you are not making a lot of fast movements deer won't see you very well. I like to travel into the wind of course.

The only way I hunt is set up in natural cover, or slip around. Saturday morning I stalked one for 300 yds, stayed within 40-50 the whole time just never a good shot opportunity. The kill is great, but I live for the hunt. No trail cams, no bait, or any aide outside of rifle or bow. Just woodsmanship and staying on hot sign. I love being surprised by what walks out.

Walking and slipping on most clubs is discouraged. I like to walk and slip based on growing up mule deer hunting. Got my arse in big trouble on the first club I joined here in AL. So, I’ve never done it again.

This is the problem a lot of people have including myself. My lease partner does not like it when I do it too much. So I mostly stay put. However in the dog hunting club I am in, nobody cares, if I hunt there without the dogs, I will not be sitting.
