I think an app that turns off phones while vehicle is running would be great safety factor. What if you are the passenger in the car? That's the Achilles heel of that strategy.

Most of us grew up without cell phones. Anyone can live without a cell phone. You can damn sure survive a road trip.

Most of us grew up without cell phones. Anyone can live without a cell phone. You can damn sure survive a road trip. Then my wife would have to talk to me in the car. And it would lessen my control of the radio. Not sure I like this plan. Though, we usually don't allow our kids electronics in the car, so I guess she would just read a book and not talk to me anyway.

Outback is a tyrant. Give me liberty or give me death!!!!! You have to admit that our world would be a better place if I was supreme ruler. If I ever become supreme dictator, first thing I'm doing is making it a life sentence for anyone that microwaves fish in an office kitchen, or anyone that cooks bacon in an office kitchen without bringing enough for everyone.

I'm going out on a limb here and guess your vehicle isn't bluetooth equipped. Two of them are, but I wouldn't know how to use it. Plus that doesn't solve the problem, it's the distraction and inattention, caused by the phone. Hands free makes little, if any, difference.

During my recent visit to Spain Rehab, my wife and I decided to get lunch between tests. Going on the main corridor between Spain and the North Pavilion, we noticed that at least 75% of the crowds in corridor had their cell phones to their ears or either texting and walking. At one point I had to serve in my wheelchair to keep a woman from walking into my lap, we also noticed another with a cell phone in each hand. That corridor is used as part of an indoor walking track for people on their lunch hour so traffic is not done at a leisurely pace. I like the motion sensor Walking with a cell phone is almost as bad as driving. Maybe not as dangerous but still extremely rude and selfish. That's why it's prohibited on all military bases. I guarantee you that if you're walking around Camp Lejeune, distracted by a cell phone, those MPs will be happy to give you a lesson in etiquette.

Pretty soon it'll all be implants anyway, so you wont have to worry. Then when the "Senior Alert!" comes across the TV we will all feel better knowing where they died.😁

I would think a law that requires cell phones to be inoperable if moving above a certain pace let’s say 5mph unless you have some sort of special need like a paramedic or something would save a lot of lives. Or at least make the penalty the same as an DUI.
If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

If it could somehow distinguish between the driver and passengers, sure.....but to my knowledge that technology doesn't exist so you'll never see it happen.
