I used to hunt. Now I mostly just wait and let the kids shoot shoot walks out.

The old days of scouting and hunting a certain buck are a dying tradition. The new generation just pours out a lot of corn, puts up cameras and sits on their couch and checks the cameras.

I just sit in a wood box most of the time. I could do what I do without a gun. But I find it really hard to do without snacks.

This is what im doing this year, more or less, and its driving me nuts. If you hunt one buck, or even two or three, that means you have to just sit there and let the rest of them just walk away. That can play heck on a mans nerves.

I just can’t make myself do it. I guess I’m a hunter, not a shooter. That’s 99.9% of the fun, and agony sometimes. They’re not the smartest critters, but sometime I think they’re a lot smarter than me.

I’ve certainly changed over the years. I used to scout, find sign that I liked, do this at several places and hunt it according to the wind and conditions. The element of surprise was exciting. Never knowing what you were hunting was great because there was always the hope that the next deer I saw may be a 160”. Now, I rarely find time to scout. I don’t walk around and look for sign much at all. I will find acorns and other food sources to hunt in early fall, but for the most part I have cams out in areas attracting deer (plots or trails, occasionally scrapes) and I’ll go hunt particular deer when the timing is right. There’s no hope of killing that giant because they typically don’t exist and it’s just a waiting a game for that mature buck I’m after.

I still love to hunt I've tried the set over a foodplot shooting house hope they come deal and I still don't for a quick hunt but I don't like it as much as getting out in the woods trying to figure the sign out and get up a tree feely odds increase in my favor by doing it that way

Ive never been hunting a day in my life. But I do like to go sit in the woods and see if a deer will show up.

Turkey season is for "hunting".....deer season is for trying to guess when/where they'll be and hoping something shows up.

(this is probably why I havent killed anything this year, if I'm honest)

Sitting on a greenfield is not even close to the same as hunting the big woods. But that’s just me.

Sitting and hoping is no fun!! Like figuring the puzzle out and enjoy finding those places the greenfield hunters don't know exist! Of course, after killing several in the woods they start talking about needing to hunt in the woods as they walk to the shooting house on a greenfield/corn and do a lot of hoping. Carry on don't mind me sitting by the tree!!

"After all, it is not the killing that brings satisfaction; it is the contest of skill and cunning. The true hunter counts his achievement in proportion to the effort involved and the fairness of the sport." Dr. Saxton Pope
